Michael Crawford status

So, now that theyve announced a replacement for Michael Ball come May 2, I suppose this means Crawford is done for good. But why wouldnt they make an official announcement that he is not coming bacK? Ill be studying there in the fall and was looking forward to seeing him. Is there a possibility he will come back at all? Do the brooadway cast? Anything? I just dont understand this "illness" of his and why it seems so damn secretive.

I remember reading here that it was official that he was not coming back. Not completely sure tho, I'll try and find it.
