What is the significance of "The Moon Lake Casino" in Tennessee Williams' plays? I can think of three that make mention of it, The Glass Menagerie, A Streetcar Named Desire and Summer and Smoke. There must be more, but I was just wondering...what's the deal?
Well, it's nice to see I'm not the only one who doesn't know!

Columbus, MS was the birthplace of Williams. He used the historical figures and houses of the area for the basis of many of his characters and places. For example, the home of Blanche Cutrer in Clarksdale, MS was the basis for Big Daddy's house in "Cat" and Belle Reve in "Streetcar", as well as the character Blanche DuBois in "Streetcar". Moon Lake, located between Clarksdale and Tunica, MS is mentioned several times in Williams's works. Across the street from Moon Lake is "Uncle Henry's", a resturant today, formerly the Moon Lake Casino mentioned in Williams's work.
All of thsese historical references that would have no significance to someone who wasn't from the area, where just homages to little parts of his native regeion.

Wow, that picture is really eerie for some reason. Does he use the name "Cutrer" somewhere? It sounds familiar...I can't quite put my finger on it.
