I was able to attend last nights dress rehearsal for Mother Courage- and as Mr. Wolfe announced last night before the show- it was still a rehearsal- so I won't comment on it as if it were a performance, but that rehearsal was better than a lot of actual performances I've seen.
All I have to say is- WOW- this show should be amazing if it continues to grow and tighten during previews. There are so many awesome elements to it. The set looks fantastic, the music is very good- and the actors perform the living crap out of their songs- and I mean PERFORM- this isn't about singing nicely- they communicate the ugly, boisterous, and nasty side of what they are singing.
Go wait on line early- because this show is worth it.

How do you get tickets in advance?

Through the Summer Sponsorship Program, in exchange for a $150 donation to the Public, you get a ticket to the show -- though I'm hearing that those tickets are getting scarce (only half the seats -- every other row at the Delacorte for each performance -- are set aside for corporate and individual donors; the rest are for the people who wait in line). I ordered months ago and got third row center, but a friend of mine ordered recently and got a nosebleed seat and not for his first choice of dates.

Meryl is great in the show. The role is so hard- and the demands are obviously tremendous- and she is really very captivating.
Kevin Kline is Kevin Kline- for me he's good- but never really that different. I do wish Christopher Walken was still involved- it would have been very different.
I'm going Wednesday evening (Summer Sponsorship is a beautiful thing). Glad to hear Meryl was good at the rehearsal...I just don't see her as an ideal fit in the role. I hope she proves me wrong!
