I was just reading my book, The Devil Wears Prada- and this came along.
"The men were all flamboyantly gay, adorning themselves in second-skin leather pants and ribbed T's that stretched over bulging biceps and perfect pecs. The art director, an older man sporting champagne blond, thinning hair, who looked like he dedicated his life to emulating Elton John, was turned out in rabbit-fur loafers and eyeliner. No one batted an eye. We'd had gay groups on campus, and I had a few friends who'd come out the past few years, but none of them looked like this. It was like being surrounded by the entire cast and crew of Rent--- with better costumes, of course. " - The Devil Wears Prada
Rent. Yay!
I was reading another book a long time ago and it mentioned Wicked. If you have read a book where a musical was mentioned- post! :)
In one of the Pendragon books, they mention Cats.
" What was that one show again? The one were those people were dressed up un spandex? Wasn't it like Cats or something?"
In Book called "Zipped," A woman came out as a lesbian to the protagonist. She said, something along the lines of, "There was a Showtune I once heard, and it's lyrics were "The face behind the face behind the face". Well, I'm a lesbian. The face behind the face behind the face likes girls." The Showtune, I later found out, is from "A Class Act."

Well, that's kinda ironic. Tracie Thoms is going to be in The Devil Wears Prada movie. Heh.
You must read "How I Paid For College." Lots of musicals mentioned, because it's about drama students. But it is also HILARIOUS! Seriously, any theatre fan should read it!
Chris -- such a great book - I laughed out loud several times during that one.
I don't know about books, but in Buffy, Spike references "The Music Man"
"...You can have it all, 76 bloody trombones..."

I didn't know they were making it a movie, let alone Tracie Thoms is in it!
Irony. :)
I just read "How I Paid for College" - so ridiculously hilarious. I loved it.

i'm in the middle of "How I Paid For College" and i love love LOVE it. it's so funny, and when i get really stressed out about transferring, it calms me down a little because it's so hilarious!!
I read a book in 7th grade called The View From Saturday, and they go to see a tour of Phantom of the Opera in Florida, and one of the kids schools does a production of Annie...
horrible book, but it mentioned them.
I read one of those crappy teen girl books about a year ago, but I can't remember the name. It was about a girl whose cousin comes to live with her, and basically how the cousin makes the girl's life hell. The cousin is really wild and parties a lot, and has a shirt that says "I Cain't Say No" on it. The main girl takes it to be really slutty and cheap because she thinks "cain't" is spelled wrong, but then the cousin gets the lead in the school play and the girl realizes it's from Oklahoma. Quality literature right there.
American Psycho talks about Les Miserables at the very beginning, incorrectly calling its mascot "Eponine."
justagirl, I believe that book is called "Vegan Virgin Valentine". Quality literature indeed. :P

I LOVE How I Paid For College... completely innapropriate for younger people though, just as a warning.
I think I wanna read this now.

dramaparoxysm23, thank you so much! That's been bugging me for a while. At least I'm not the only one who's read it...:)
The Wicked reference I was talking about was in one of The Clique books (another teen girl book). Something about a bunch of people running down a hall singing Popular. Glad people at my school don't do that.
In the book Sellevision, one character is driving somewhere and it mentions he puts in his favorite CD: the original Broadway cast recording of Rent. I squealed like a fangirl when I read that, it just completely caught me offguard.
There was a book I read about a man who's mother was dying and he took her to see Les Miserables and they got kicked out because she was singing along. I can't remember the title of it, but it was a pretty good book.
What role is Tracie Thoms playing in The Devil Wears Prada?
Lilly.

There is a book called "Gilbert and Sullivan Set Me Free" - a totally bizarre book, but lots of G+S references!

Yes, "How I Paid for College" is, um, R-rated. But, man, that is a funny book. They're doing "Guys & Dolls," at school, right? The straight, jock-type plays Sky.(??) And don't they all go into the city to see "A Chorus Line?" I need to re-read this.
Close, they're doing Grease. I thought "How I Paid for College" was great!
