My RENT review- 12/16

Ok, so last night I went to see RENT at the Merriam theatre in Philadelphia. Here's my review:

The stage was pretty big, and I loved how the set was preset. So it was kinda shocking how they all started walking out on stage, 'cause people weren't sitting down yet and it was really annoying, same with seasons of love.

RENT- I loved it! They had so much energy! I thought the music was too loud,though, as you couldn't hear the actors very well.

One Song Glory- Dan's emotions in this were amazing! It was so touching. Except for that about a thousand people walked in late! Loved the shadow of him, too.

Light My Candle- Tallia Brinson was soooooooo good. She just had that in your face look about her, and she has such a wonderful voice. Dan was great in this too.

Today 4 U- Damiem is AMAZING!!!!!! He came out and the audience cheered and clapped! He was so good, my mom thought he was a girl! He is REALLY tall, though. Especially with those heels.

Uh what's next...tango maureen. It was really funny, Andy had the audience cracking up! He is better than Anthony Rapp, I swear. Adrienne Fishe had a good voice...I dunno. She kind of annoyed me.

Skip ahead to Out Tonight. Amazing!!! Tallia has SUCH a good voice. And she is really flexible too! Again, the music was WAY too loud. You could barely hear her.

I'll Cover You-really touching, they had great chemistry together.

Over the Moon- Soooo funny! Ava was really good! What an amazing voice! is maureen supposed to have a lisp, though? 'Cause Ava kinda did.

La Vide Boheme A and B- Really great. The energy was right on. On mutual masturbation, Andy did this really funny thing where he shook the table and moaned. The flash was kinda unexpected, though. Lol.

Seasons of Love-really nice. The soloist belt the whole thing! ?She was amazing! Except this woman in front of me had her hands up and clapping. Ugh.

TMOLM- Great! They both have great voices. Adrienne turned her back to the audience a lot though. Ava is really amazing. I think she held a note too long and came in late though.

rest was great- angel's death was sad. Collins reprise-made me cry. What you own, they were right on with this!

Overall, I LOVED this show!!!!! It was really touching and moving. I think this cast is just as good as the original, if not better! Go see this tour now!

Also, I was really mad. The people in front of me were passing back candy the whole time to the people next to me. Also, they said they have no idea why Dan was cast. He's too tall. I was bout to kill them! Updated On: 12/17/04 at 04:59 PM

I keep hearing such wonderful things about this tour cast! Let's get them to Broadway!!

And yeah... Dan is pretty tall, but I keep hearing he's one of the best Rogers yet, so props to him.

Yeah...he growled A LOT. I think this has to be the best cast since the original.

wickedphantom, I totally agree.

Oh, and the sound problem has been a chronic problem since the beginning of this leg (and maybe earlier). I saw the show in Vancouver in September and I swear the skin on my face was trembling from that amp volume, even AFTER they "turned it down"!!

No disrespect to Tallia, but OT isn't her best song at all. Her choreography and presence there is much better than her voice - at least in that scene. I LOVE her Without You.

Tell me you wouldn't choke over this - I couldn't hear Dan R sing OSG on opening night because the music TOTALLY drowned any lower-range notes (which is like, half the words!). It was literally, "......BEFORE....GLOR....boy front MAN...."

I also had trouble hearing in RENT. I really like Tallia's voice. But I admit, she had amazing prescence, and she was really flexible!!!! I thought she really worked with Dan too. I could hear better in the second act.
