So I just got back from seeing Fiddler on the Roof.
I went in knowing very little about the show
and I came out thrilled.

First off... i think the most talented female in the cast is Laura Shoop-> she has a great voice and was a fabulous Hodel

Andrea Martin was hilarious... her voice wasn't all that though.

Harvey-> great!!!! he is truly in character with a bit of flare here in there and i love it. although i've never seen anyone else in the role, i feel like he brought a lot of himself into the character in a loving manner and let the character of Tevye and his own self be conjoined--- he did a good job with balancing the two.

I also must say that i loved the show cuz it was a way for my family and i (we're 5 in total) to be together without talking (fighting) and enjoying the theater. thank goodness!

After the show, we stayed at the stage door, got some autographs. cuz my little brother is young (he's 10 but looks younger) all of the actors stopped and chatted with him and i and signed playbills for us. and finally Harvey came out and chatted with us. he seemed kinda snobby at some points with some people who wanted more than one autograph and he said no pictures. but no biggy... he's entitled. anyways, we started walking off... and apparently Harvey was heading in the same direction as we were to get to the car which was in a parking garage a few blocks down. anyways, we get out of the minskoff region and turn around and there's Harvey walking right behind us! so he started talking to us and my little brother especially (ya know... they gotta be nice to kids) and told him he could do whatever he wanted with the playbill now cuz the ink is prolly dried. and he joked around how odd it was that we were all walking in the same direction. he didn't get any special treatment like a limo or a guard from the second he walked off the minskoff area. and so eventually he went off after chatting with us a few blocks and looking into some bars and stuff.
when we reached The Laugh Factory, there was a restaurant right by it where outside stood the actress from 3rd Rock from the Sun and The Flinstones (Wilma)... she was laughing and talking with some of the employees at the restaurant.

i love new york. no where else can all of this happen to you in one night... silence in a family of 5 for a few hours, chatting with harvey fierstein who practically walks you back to your car, and seeing another celebrity doing normal things. not to mention, a day before new years i passed lindsay lohan in the street and raven simone... they were having a dress rehearsal for the new years eve celebration.

but anyways... NYC rocks... it's HOME to me... even though i live 25 minutes away (over the bridge in nj My Short Review of Fiddler... )

FYI, the woman you saw was Kristen Johnston, who is in the cast of "The Baltimore Waltz" playing on W. 42 Street. She probab;y just got off work. Updated On: 1/9/05 at 01:10 AM
