I second that.

He's entitled to his opinions. We'll know in a month. Wouldn't it be grand if Yankee was right? Who knows.

I think Billy's going to get featured actress for Haydn Gwynne and has a shot at featured actor. Also, it will probably get best book (Score I have a feeling will go to Next to Normal), but I feel like if Billy wins musical which I'm 99.9% certain it will, it will get either score or book, and in this case it's book. I think director's a good category to watch because it's either going to be Diane Paulus or Stephen (sp?) Daldry. Daldry may pick it up in the Billy momentum.

But I don't totally disagree that Next to Normal will pick up a few significant awards, most importantly, actress and score. (I do think lighting and orchestrations are also strong possibilities as both are top notch in this show.)

I think Marcia Gay Harden is going to upset McTeer for Lead Actress in a Play.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see Martha Plimpton (who is beloved) take Featured Actress in a Musical, although I could see Haydn Gwynne getting swept up to victory in the BILLY ELLIOT frenzy that's sure to ensure.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

I agree with somethingwicked, the Featured Actress in a Musical is between Plimptom and Gwynne. Plimptom is respected and beloved in the community and she proved that she was a true stage presence by turning in yet another acclaimed performance but in a medium that was new to her. I think the voters might feel it's her turn.
Having said that, given the ridiculous number of nods that BILLY ELLIOT got I wouldn't be surprised to see them win just about every award they got nominated for, particularly the acting awards.

You always seem to have a lot of thoughts in a lot of newly-formed threads, Yankeefan.

What's the Tony thread count now? Up to 5 or 6, I believe.

I'm thinking Shelley's nomination bumps out Gwynne a little and puts Olivo in the lead. I see her winning the Tony.

Also, BILLY ELLIOT must win for sound design and directing. The sound design was flawless, powerful and incredible, as was Daldry's brilliant directing.

I wouldn't say that BILLY really deserves book or score. I'd love to see 9 TO 5 take score and NEXT TO NORMAL take book. But I doubt that will happen.

I'm going to say Hair will take Lighting. And Paulus definitely deserves director. What she got out of that script was incredible.

I gotta say it's a tight race for director of a musical. They both deserve it - for Hair and Billy Elliot - and they're so uniquely great in their direction, but I gotta give it to Billy Elliot for his flawless infusion of choreography interwoven with storytelling. And just the overall design/look of the show is wonderful.

And I think 33 Variations deserves "set" - only good thing about it.
