Has anyone else heard about this? Apparently it's opening in December...

While it may be interesting, it's not the musical Carrie as we know it.
It will share the same source material, but that seems to be about it...

I thought this had already opened, actually, since it was discussed almost a year ago on other theatre boards.

:: sigh :: Like some of you, I have the bootleg CDs of both the Broadway and London casts of the first CARRIE, and y'know, under all that 80s dross, there's actually a good little show. I wish the libettist would let go of it and let someone else take a turn on making it work, because there truly is somsthing there.

"Carrie" isn't supposed to be purposely campy. What made the original so hilariously awful was that everybody was earnest about it. Generally, when a show aims for camp it fails spectacularly (Rachael Lily Rosenbloom, anyone?). There are exceptions, of course, but that's usually the way it is.
And what's this business with the puppets?

I would hope that it's done as a more intimate, 'chamber' musical type of production. I believe that would make the characters easier to relate to, than the way they were portrayed in the London production. That was a huge mess in a box and I hated the big white staircase.

I'm not entirely sure it can work as a musical. I think it would make a good straight play, though. If it were to be musicalized again, I think that "Evening Prayers" and most or all of "And Eve Was Weak" and "I Remember..." could be transferred, because they're such great numbers. Considering how well they wrote for Carrie and Margaret and how hugely they screwed up everyone else, it feels like there were two teams working on the show, doesn't it?
Great. Now I have "In" stuck in my head...

Well, tne cardboard cars for the drive in and the slutty-yet-white outfits for the opening PE number didnt exactly help much either. :)
