Excitement was in the air on a recent Friday as producers, cast members, directors and staff of the North Shore Music Theatre in Beverly, Massachusetts, met over lunch with BroadwayWorld.com to discuss their plans to bring their new musical, The Three Musketeers, to Broadway. With music by George Stiles (Honk!, Tom Jones, Mary Poppins), lyrics by Paul Leigh (Tom Jones, Moll Flanders), and book by University of Cambridge author and editor Peter Raby (Cambridge Companion to Oscar Wilde and Cambridge Companion to Harold Pinter), this latest adaptation of the Alexandre Dumas classic seems to be in very good hands.

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."

Posted: 8/26/07 at 8:36amI saw this show at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre last Christmas and it was cute, but it did need much work. It does have some terrific songs, but the book was rather tepid. I did see much potential for the show, so I hope the revisions are enough.

Posted: 8/26/07 at 8:44amYes, Sutton and Jim did a recording of the show from 2001. It has been rewritten and rewitten and rewritten since then. It still has more rewriting to do, but the authors seem to know that based on the preview press on the show.

Posted: 8/26/07 at 10:28amI actually saw this yesterday at North Shore. The musical definitely has some potential and it is still going through with revisions and all. I loved the music, and the cast got a standing ovation from the crowd. Kate Baldwin was AMAZING, you must try to go and see her. Personally, I didn't think the musical works well in-the-round at all. It needs to try out in a procenium setting, like the producer said in the interview, before coming to Broadway. But like I said, it has potential to be great and I am excited for it's future.
