I actually find the guy more convincing as a schmuck than Sean Hayes.
Anyway... I TREASURE the memory of seeing Jean Smart in the role.

O my goodness, that's my college! I was the accompanist for this.

Posted: 5/29/10 at 2:14amThat was a college? Oh my... She holds for laughs in the weirdest places and skips over laugh lines that I thought were obvious.

This was a student-directed, 20-minute cut of the show, not a fully staged production. It was for a directing class. I only came into the show the day before the performance. Something happened with the original accompanist, I can't remember what. This was also the first (and only) time they did this for an audience, so I'm sure they didn't fully know where they would get laughs.

Posted: 5/29/10 at 2:44pmThere's no way around how bad this is, for a college or otherwise.

Posted: 5/29/10 at 2:50pmWhere they are pushing and not pushing for laughs has nothing to do with having an audience. It has to do with basic, elementary comic timing.

This is probably how they were directed. I know the two people who did this scene and they are very talented. The girl, Ellen, has such a great voice. A shame she can't show it off here.
