Posted: 12/10/04 at 5:59pmI really would go to this if I were home, but, unfortunately, I'll be taking a final exam instead. It sounds like fun, though (maybe because I am a twenty-something!).

Wow.
Edit - I didn't mean to just say only that, but I really don't know what else to say. How about, "That's pathetic!"

Posted: 12/10/04 at 6:20pmI would be happy to!! I was asked to swing for the caroling group(there are 2 casts of 6) covering the baritone and the tenor. I was asked to come sing because they needed someone who could sight read music FAST. I did...Went thru a 3 hour rehearsal to be told my services were no longer needed as they wanted someone younger....and this after they approved headshots. I think 3 of us were told this little piece of information....and YES my headshot is current

Wow. It's a nice goal and a nice contribution to BC/EFA, though.
Are they doing it again this year? If so, I would boycott them. If they have since changed their attitudes, I would disregard it, especially for this event.
That action was probably the result of one person's demands - marketing/promotion most likely.

No disrespect to you, Bobby, but this happens every day, with purpose.

Ohhh, I see. I thought you were referring to those commercials. When I first read your post about the groups, thought the commercial people were performing. I got it now.
Dang. That's horrible. Do they know how you feel about it?

I asked the people in charge at BC/EFA for the name of the PR firm handling it....the email was sent last Tuesday and Im STILL waiting for an answer.
On the lighter side, I am VERY grateful for Old Navy's contribution to the fund...but it has been kind of tough to swallow the insult. They TOTALLY could have told us that they hired too many people and didnt need us anymore. They DID NOT have to play the age card

" Only if you're twenty-something..."
Where does it say this??? I've read the article linked here and I went to the ON website and NOTHING anywhere says you have to be "twenty-something."
I think people are confusing what happened to Bobby with this promotion in Times Square.
Might I remind everyone, that they will be DONATING $85,000 TO BC/EFA!! Isn't that worth it? I mean, this is a cause worth singing a couple of hours for. Right?
" No disrespect to you, Bobby, but this happens every day, with purpose."
I too, mean no disrespect to Bobby, but I totally agree with that statement.

Posted: 12/10/04 at 8:30pmIt IS the same promotion for Old Navy. And YES it is a great thing they gave bc/efa that money....Im forever grateful for that....THATS not the point....The point is they could have handled it COMPLETELY different. Talk to me when you have been told you are too old to XMAS carol in the name of a charity!

Posted: 12/11/04 at 1:12amWhat I don't get about these kind of promotions is, why don't they just donate the money? Why do they need to spend all this money setting up an event to advertise the fact that they're making a donation? What happens if not enough people show up? They won't make the donation?

Posted: 12/11/04 at 9:27amI don't like Old Navy, but I do like free stuff and I love BC/EFA getting $85,000. I think I'll try and get my ass out of bed for this.
