OK, so "Oliver" is on TV right now, and I haven't watched this movie in years. I remember noticing before, and even more now, that Oliver's voice is dubbed... extremely poorly. I checked on IMDB.com and got this bit of trivia....

The voice of Oliver was dubbed by Kathe Green, the 20-year-old daughter of the film's musical director, Johnny Green.

So, my question is WHY didn't that just get a kid that could sing??? OR even more so, WHY DID THEY USE A WOMAN VOICE FOR THE DUBBING????? It's soooo obvious that its NOT a boy... I can't understand how this film won the Oscar for Best Sound!

I like the voices in the revival with Jonathan Price better than the movie.

I think the OLIVER film is amazing.

I'm not saying its not amazing... it really is!!! But when a 12 year old boy opens his mouth and a 20 year old womans voice comes out, it kinda ruins the whole thing for me!!!

Also, did anyone notice that Bill Sykes song "My Name" is not in the film, yet it is heard in the score? Like in the dark scene when Bill's walking away just before "As Long As He Needs Me"...

yes, some songs were cut and used as underscoring instead

but i had no idea that little mark lester was dubbed by a 20 year old woman in this film.

that is too funny.

now i won't be able to look at that movie quite the same way again...

Lauren Bacall's singing voice was once dubbed by the very young Andy Williams.

I agree with Spider, the 1996 Cameron Mackintosh London revival CD is absolutely stunning, with new lush orchestrations that blow the old clanky one right out of the water.

Well, Fluffy, he was one of America's most popular singers of the '60s. Very laid back with a phenomenal range. He had a long running TV show and his hits included "Moon River". He and his brothers used to sing back-ups for the great Kay Thompson.
