Is Jersey Boys really the front runner? Seems crazy considering they shut out All Shook Up last year because it was a jukebox which I think should have at least gotten Cheyenne (sp?) a nomination and one for sets and orchestrations.
Also, he says that The Color Purple might not get a nomination, but I sorta think it would. With WiW's demise, I'm thinking it might not get a nomination.

Yes, And bring "Beloved" to Broadway too! I had NO CLUE about the film so I might understand it as a Musical! (LOL!)
BELOVED the film was trash.
I did not like the book, but the film was trash.
As soon as I saw enough of the movie to send me back to the time when I was on my bed reading the book, I realized that they lost something in translation. Like - the point.

but, IMO... ASU was not nearly as solid as JB. I feel like JB might be the one we did not see coming.

This could be from the idea that the writers had. Write a musical that could work as a play if you take the music out.
Here's the Yahoo version of the same NY Post article (that doesn't need a log in):

I think you're exactly right--about the writers' idea to write a musicial that could work as a play if you take the music out.
Although the music is phenomenal, I think JB has a pretty interesting, gripping story & I like how each of the 4 Seasons tells their "version." It rocks!
Wonder if JB will be nominated for Best Book?
