There is an error in Broadwayworld's STAGE and SCREEN STAR JERRY ORBACH PASSES AWAY AT 69 story.

The story states Mr. Orbach received three emmy nominations, one each for:

Law & Order
Broadway Bound and
Empty Nest

EMPTY NEST is not correct. Mr. Orbach never appeared on an episode of EMPTY NEST and was not emmy nominated for it. Mr. Orbach's third nomination was in 1990 for his performance as a boyfriend of Dorothy's on THE GOLDEN GIRLS.

It is interesting that the BWW error indicates his emmy nomination was for EMPTY NEST which was "somewhat of a spinoff" from THE GOLDEN GIRLS.

oh, yeah, wasn't he Dorothy's old teacher who comes back into her life and makes her do work for him?

My knowledge of Golden Girls trivia is sad. Very very sad.

NNY-
he was the married man that Dorothy had dated before and he comes back into her life, saying he is leaving his wife and wants to get back together with her.
I knew watching The Golden Girls three times a day on Lifetime would come in handy somehow.:)

How was Empty Nest a spinoff of Golden Girls? I can't recall a link, but then again, I never watched either religiously.

Every teacher is OLD. We age 7 years to the average 1 because we deal with rotten kids while their parents sit at home collecting welfare benefits.

You want errors? On NBC news Jeffrey Lyons reported that The Fantasticks opened in 1969, that Jerry Orbach starred in the first revival of 42nd Street and that he was an original star of Chicago, which is still running today.

"How was Empty Nest a spinoff of Golden Girls? I can't recall a link"

I think they lived either next door or down the street from each other. Richard Mulligan, Dinah Manoff & Kristy McNichol appeared on a couple of episodes of Golden Girls. Then later the Girls appeared on Empty Nest. It's all part of grabbing ratings when series collide like that.

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

Don't forget that Dreyfuss (the dog) appeared in a few episodes too re: Orbach Career Error reported by BWW?

Jerry Orbach DID appear in an episode of Empty Nest. It's in the "guest credits" section of his IMDB profile (I had a link, but it got all screwed up, so you can check it out on IMDB.com :))

The Golden Girls is one of my favorite shows.. Susan Harris reused a lot of her cast members on her different shows. Richard Mulligan, Dinah Manoff, and Harold Gould were all on GG, EN, and Soap (which is one of the funniest shows EVER).. more probably were as well. My Golden Girls trivia is so random.. it's practically all I watch when I'm at school.

(Also, whoever wanted to know the teacher's name, it started to bug me because I couldn't remember, so I looked it up: the actor is James T. Callahan) Updated On: 12/30/04 at 06:34 PM

Now a subject I know all about... my girls re: Orbach Career Error reported by BWW?

The actual spin-off of "Empty Nest" took place as part of the "Golden Girls" series, since both shows were created by Susan Harris. The pilot for "Empty Nest" aired as the "Golden Girls" season finale in May, 1987. The pilot stared Rita Moreno, Paul Dooley, Geoffrey Lewis, David Leisure, and Jane Harnick. After the pilot aired, producers (and the all important focus groups) weren't pleased, so "Empty Nest" was retooled and recast. Only David Leisure was kept on, but his character was changed. After "Empty Nest" began airing as its own series in 1988, the new cast members made cameos on "Golden Girls," in a way to introduce the new show to a large audience.

DRY2OLIVES---
be careful, you may be misreading or hearing. Granted, i don't know the exact start date of FANTASTICKS, admittedly, but...

Orbach was the star of the original 42nd STREET (1980?) production, so only if the word "revival" was used, is the mention incorrect...

He also starred in the original production of CHICAGO (1975?), so again, only if the word "revival" was used, was the mention incorrect...
