I will be in New York around the time of the Tony Awards. Lots of new shows to see! But I'm hesitant to get tickets for performances on the day of the Awards.
How is this usually handled? I'm, for instance, looking at HAIR's evening performance on that day. Is it very likely that a lot of understudies will be on, since the leads are at the ceremony?
Thanks for any advice. :)

Depends if they are nominated. I would also look at shows from last season or before like Chicago or August
wait, are you saying that Hair has a performance that night? or do you mean the matinee?
HAIR has a Sunday matinee and evening performance every week, including on June 7.
I did notice that 9 To 5 has no performances at all on Tony day. While they usually do have a Sunday matinee.
some actors do decide to skip the matinee on Tony day, but most of them do not. I would double check the time for the performance, though, because sometimes a show will have an earlier start time than usual on Tony day.

Billy Elliot, which normally would be dark on a Monday and have a 3 PM matinee on a Sunday, has an adjusted schedule for the Monday-Sunday week of the Tonys: 8 PM performance on Monday June 1; dark on Sunday June 7.
Not directed at the OP, but in general... Is there a way to do an FAQ post at the top of the page or somewhere for stuff like this that comes up every year?
Just asking genuinely. Seems like it would be easier all around.

Depending on how Hair fares in the Tony nominations, I'm sure they would adjust their Sunday schedule to eliminate the Sunday evening performance. Although not a guarantee, a showing on the Tony awards could be a marketing boost that no performer or show would want to miss. IMO.
Let alone a once in a lifetime opportunity as well as a dream come true....
Thanks for the advice, everyone. And yes, jordangirl, you have my vote for such a FAQ.
