Private Screenings: Angela Lansbury : TCM

Posted: 8/23/09 at 4:14pmHello. Turner Classic Movies is doing a retrospective of Angela Lansbury's films. Also, I was thrilled to watch her interview with Robert Osborne titled: "Private Screenings: Angela Lansbury" (2006). Luckily, I recorded it on my dvr. In the interview, she goes thru her careers in film, stage and television. She has such a wonderful way with words. It was almost like reading a book. It's no wonder that she's known as one of the nicest people in the entertainment industry. When Robert Osborne mentioned the casting of Lucille Ball in the film version of "Mame", I did notice that Angela got a bit emotional in her response. I could sense her hurt at being passed over for that movie. Another surprise was when she mentioned that of all her theatre roles, "Sweeney" is the only one on tape (up to that point). Finally, it was touching to hear her mention that she'd love to do one more film role so as to (in her words) "close the book nicely." She is truly a class act and a national treasure. from RC in Austin, Texas P.S. I can't wait for this Sat. Aug. 29th when I see "Wicked" in Austin.

"Private Screenings" is one of the best (if not THE best) interview programs for film actors ever.
I wish they would release a set on DVD. I still have the one for "Betty Hutton." Brilliant television. And I adore Robert Osborne. He strikes the right blend between film geek, fan, and average guy.
Nobody else today does that nearly as well.
