I mentioned something about seeing the AIDA tour with Paulette Ivory and Jeremy Kushnier, except Jeremy was on vacation, so Ryan Link went on. Is this the same guy who is playing Rodger on Broadway?

To editorialize now that the question's been answered - I found Ryan's performance as Roger quite refreshing. He really seemed into the part not just in the rock-star-it-through standard that Manley Pope used for years, but got into the lines, really singing them like they were dramatic lines and not just song lyrics he was throwing off. His "Light My Candle" was particularly good, even if technically it wasn't up to par with most of the prior Rogers I've seen. He's still developing that chemistry with the surrounding cast, but he also works together quite well with Matt Caplan in "What You Own."

I'll throw my two cents in and say that I really enjoy Ryan's performance as well. I've seen quite the good number of Rogers over the past few years and Ryan finds himself nicely in the middle of my bunch (no one can beat Joshua Kobak or Chad Richardson for me). I think he has a very good understanding of the character, and I find some of his deliveries to be the best I've heard. He also has a very good singing style and voice, which hopefully is able to stick out his run (he's already experiencing vocal troubles, which he's working to remedy). I think he's a good guy to have in the role right now though, and it's nice to see a fresh face up there, it's so rare in that show! Updated On: 10/25/03 at 02:32 PM
