I'm a litte late, I meant to post this earlier, but I think Jonathan deserves a thread. 8 years ago today we lost a huge talent who would have changed the face of Broadway as we know it. I respect Jon so much, and will spend today listening to RENT =)
I know we aren't all RENT fans, but you don't have to be one to respect his talent. So please, so no RENT bashing, and lets keep this thread civil =) thank you!!

Equally tragic is that his death could have been prevented had he been diagnosed properly at the hospital.
8 years? Goodness, it's been so long. Never does it fail to break my heart to know that he never knew the success of RENT in the flesh. Geez.
god bless JL ... His musical changed my life forever.
Same here...

R.I.P Jonathan! You have not been forgotten.
yes, RIP Jonathan. I agree with Mynameinlights. It's horrible that he never knew the success of his show. It's lives, and it's so inspiring.

He DID change the face of Broadway as we know it. Rest in peace, J.L
Love to Mr. Larson.
Changed my life for sure.

wow 8 years. i went to see rent on the one year anniversary it was really sad. i had totally forgot that thanks for reminding us.
Yes, his music was brilliant. What is even more tragic is that all the wards the score got and he couldn't be there to accept it. But I'm sure he was proud of the production before he died. What sucks is also Phantom's opening aniversary is tomorrow. talk about bad timing.

Wow - how time flies. His music and his spirit remain an inspiration to me.
Did RENT do anything special for this?

let us not forget tick, tick...BOOM!
Jonathan Larson, meet Jerry Ross.
I was at the show today (Sunday) and they didn't do anything special for Jonathon's birthday. However, there was an insert saying that at that performance, RENT became the 11th longest running show on Broadway. Perfect timing :)

I was definately thinking about Jonathan Larson a lot yesterday. It's a shame to listen to Rent and ttB and think of what other amazing shows he might have come up with had he lived.
I'm surprised they didn't make any type of announcement after the show. However, that is nice timing. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that in the middle of next month it becomes 10th longest running.
Rock on RENT!
Is Cats still number 1?
Oh god I hope it gets knocked down.
Lol...I agree with Elphie. Something needs to beat Cats! Shame it wasn't Les Mis...
Btw, is there a website where that contains a list of all the shows ever on Broadway in order of how long they ran? Or at least the top 20 or so shows? I thought I'd saw one somewhere, but I don't remember.
Here's one...
