Posted: 5/14/08 at 10:56amWell at least their doing okay at the box office. I really like the show.

Posted: 5/14/08 at 11:33amIt is cool to see Reidel at least be nice to someone for once. I saw his interview with Harvey on Theatre Talk and Michael is actually very intelligent and knowledgable. It is too bad he wastes so much time being a jackass.

That's funny stuff.

Posted: 5/14/08 at 12:08pmI think it's sort of strange how Riedel lists Passing Strange and In the Heights as the top contenders for Best Musical. In the Heights received fair reviews, but hasn't been exactly a runaway hit that would suggest it is hugely marketable. Passing Strange is a critical hit, but is flailing. With the upcoming tour dates being announced, wouldn't Xanadu actually be considered a better contender? It will probably have more exposure and it received solid reviews.

Posted: 5/14/08 at 12:47pmACA was snubbed - at the expense of the piece of trash CRY-BABY. really pisses me off

Posted: 5/14/08 at 12:49pmI think Reidel assumes no one takes Xanadu "seriously", but it honestly could sneak up and take the Tony. I mean Reidel said Avenue Q would be closed in 3-6 months and it won the Tony. I think Xanadu stands a chance.

I would love for XANADU to win Best Musical. I could imagine most of the board going up in flames... it'd be such an upset!
but look at it this way. at least it's not CRY-BABY winning the award

Posted: 5/14/08 at 5:46pmI think if Xanadu had opened, say, in March or April, it could have been a strong contender. It's first few months out of the gate, it was posting great numbers, and the reviews were strong, and there was buzz surrounding it, but now it's sort of tinkered out and people forget it's even on Broadway.

Well Riedel was wrong about A CATERED AFFAIR getting the fourth nom so he could be wrong about XANADU not winning.
It has my vote.

Posted: 5/15/08 at 7:20amAt least Harveys Blog is more interesting than the actual show. The lesser of two evils...Cry Baby and A Catered Affair, both tedious to sit through. Baby had color and energy, Affair had Harvey, Faith, Tom and Heather. Most folks west of here don't know who any of them are, except for maybe Wopat.

lol Xanadu has no chance at Best Musical
and MisterMatt, Spring Awakening followed a very similar path to In The Heights from Off Broadway etc, its box office was not great until after the Tony Awards, so i dont think that because In The Heights is not seeing a stampede at the box office will have any affect on how Tony voters vote.
#18re: Riedel: 'CATERED' SNUB - NO TONY AFFECTION FOR FIERSTEIN
Posted: 5/15/08 at 9:54amSpring Awakening had MUCH stronger buzz and better reviews than In the Heights, which helped its exposure, not to mention cultivating a huge fan base of teens and college kids. I haven't seen the same type of momentum underway for In the Heights. That may change, but so far, I don't see In the Heights taking off in the same way.

Posted: 5/15/08 at 10:05amThe difference between ITH and SA though is that ITH is more accessible...families, older folks, you know, a broader and more diverse target audience. With a strong performance on the Tonys it should attract a lot of ticket buyers, especially tourists.

Posted: 5/15/08 at 3:29pmI think Xanadu's best shot is in the book category....Douglas has been given a lot of the credit for its success.
