I had the best time Monday night. At the Soho Playhouse I saw an off broadway show called Room Service. Apparently an old show from the late 30s and a Marx Brothers movie this play has everything i wanted. The acting was impeccable, the set was cute and i could not have had more fun. I was speaking to the house manager before the show and she told me they celebrated their 100th performance. I am given to understand from friends of mine that act, that a cast this size in a off broadway house running this long is not the usual thing. I cannot reccommend this more highly, its fun, its energetic and you will have a great time...go go go....in the words of one of the characters...DAMMIT. roomservicetheplay.com
I saw it last summer at the Westbeth Theatre. I know that's not its name anymore, but I saw another show there and know it as that. I hope it fits better into the Soho Playhouse, because it's, as you say, a delightful show. I saw a magnificent production at the Guthrie and another at a high school. This one was just as terrific, but the set and thrust stage didn't quite work at the Westbeth, especially with all the slamming doors.
Still, it's important to see these "warhorses" again, because they are marvelous. The movie is okay, but not nearly up to the Marx Bros. regular standards. It's no Duck Soup or Night at the Opera, that's for sure.
I agree, though, it's absolutely terrific and everyone should see it!
