Does anyone have any pics (or links to pics) of Rosie as the Cat? I've searched google, aol, yahoo and lycos to no avail. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Joshua

P.S. - Did anyone see her? How was she?

I do not have any pics of her as the "Cat" but she was very funny in the part. Its a very speak/sing role, in case you were unaware, but she had a lot of fun and energy with the part. She improved several moments including a 10 minute auction scene, juggling gigantic koosh balls, balancing basketballs, and doing a funny Sally Jesse Rapahel impersonation. I wasn't going to the see show otherwise, but only wanted to see it for her...

I thought she was swell, appropriate for the part, and frankly, had she stayed in the show indefinately, it would've kept running a while. It didn't sell out with her, but it was the heighth of her talk show, and I believe it stayed in the 85% capacity range. When she left, down went the numbers.

The night I went, Shirley MacLaine and Tom Hanks/Rita Wilson were in the house, (which she later mentioned on her show as inspiration for her better-than-average dancing) so perhaps she was particularly sparkling...

The role isn't wildly "funny" per se, requires someone bigger than life, and a real comic presence. Which is why the nat'l company with Kathy Rigby seemed like a strange idea to me. Rosie is Rosie, in many ways beyond gender ... but the part feels "male" otherwise. Call it a bias. I always think, in any high school or middle school production, the class clown would be a natural for the part.

I saw Cathy Rigby play the Cat on Broadway and thought she was fantastic. She was actually a natural fit for the role. Her acrobatics added another layer of mystery and intrigue to the Cat.

Rosie was a great personality to add to the role. However, she just didn't fit in...

LOVE her! LOVE Seussical! Tolerable, but Cathy Rigby was better.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Thanks so much for all the info., guys! I really appreciate it.

Is there anything she did completely differently than any of the other Cats? Were costumes redone for her? Choreography? Bits?

Thanks again!

~Joshua

Whenever they had a new Cat, they added bits for that person, to suit their talents. Obviously, Rosie didn't do the acrobatics that Rigby did. For instance, Rose slid down the vortex at the beginning, whereas Rigby did a somersault. Rose ad-libbed a lot more in the auction scene than any other Cat- I think it went for like 10 minutes with her. Also, she was the only one to do the basketball stuff, and play the drums. The Sally Jesse bit actually stayed in the show, because Rigby did it as well.

The real superman in this show was Bryan Batt, who stood by for all of the Cats. Everytime the blocking changed when a new Cat came in, he had to re-learn everything.

I personally didn't care for the show (though I really wanted to like it). I left during intermission.

I know Rosie had a series of "rehearsal" tapes broadcast during her talk show. She had a BIG problem with the slide for her entrance and it was kinda funny to see her trying to get up the nerve to slide down gracefully.
