It seems like there are always so many rush threads on these boards, so I thought to just make one big thread for them all. So if you have a rush/lotto question ask, but not before you checking TalkinBroadway and Playbill for current rush/lotto policies.
My question is regarding Sunday in the Park. Has rush been difficult to get due to great word-of-mouth? I'm looking to go to this Sunday's matinée but I don't know how it's been. Help would be much appreciated.
I've tried a couple of times on weekend days, and they're sold out before they even open. Kind of makes me wish they'd have a sign they could put up if they're already sold out so you know if you should bother waiting.
If you're between the ages of 18-35, join Hiptix. You can purchase rush tickets in advance for every Roundabout Production. You can either go to the box office, or buy them on the phone.
Oh, and it's free :)

I hear SITPWG sells out of these pretty quickly. I'm not sure if they have rush tickets apart from the ones they set aside for hiptix. But they set some aside for every performance.
If you join Hiptix, how far in advance should you buy tickets to make sure you get them?
Probably a week or so.
also, [ sorry for the badgering with question] does anyone know where the seats are?
Rear mezzanine, but don't let that scare you. They're good seats.
I actually sat in rear mezz for Chicago and In The Heights and I really didn't mind it at all.
for hiptix, im going with 2 friends and my mom. could we get three hiptix, then have my mom pay full price but still sit with her?
I actually just called for my sister and I and I thought it was one per Hiptitx person but he (the Roundabout guy) said we could get 4. It was the first I had heard of that rule but for once we didn't need 4.
So it seems, according to the guy I got today, that you could get 3 tickets, one for your mom as well.
You may as well try and ask. Can't hurt.
Rush has pretty much been unavailable on the weekends. I've tried every weekend for the past 3 weeks and haven't been able to get rush. I decided to just use the discount code and buy a ticket in the rear mezz for $25 - same price and location as rush.

Damn, the mezz is sold out for this Sunday! Well thank you all for the help. I guess I'll go see Xanadu instead.
Another question then, are onstage seats hard to nab day-of?
On the weekend, yes.

God and it seems like every time I try rush, even during the week they don't offer it! I hate having a student's budget! Thanks again!
Xanadu's rush is kind of... temperamental. I've gone and asked them, and they've told me that there was none, but then two days later it will be back.
Any report on how SITPWG's general rush has been lately? The parents are coming to town and will be in that area around 10AM, so I was thinking of having them stop by and try to get 3 tickets.
I saw it once with HipTix but would really lick to see it again from the Orch without spending $100+ (and without being very uncomfortable).
^ one bump for SITPWG rush, seeing if it's worth stopping in at 10:30 tomorrow?
One last try--don't want my family to go out of the way if there's no chance.
I'll be in NY from June 18 to 21. I'd like to try a few lottos during my stay but I was wondering which days usually have the least busy lottery... These are my options: Wednesday eve, Friday eve, Saturday matinee and Saturday eve.
I know that Wednesday matinee is probably the best, but I can't make it into the city until 3pm.
Any suggestions are welcome - thanks!
Elke: Obviously, the Fri/Sat ones are the busiest of the week. Wednesday shouldn't be as bad. Of the lotteries I know of, this would be my guess in easiest to hardest to win... maybe others can chime in:
Young Frankenstein
Hairspray
Avenue Q
Rent
In the Heights
Wicked
Obviously, luck will vary. You hear on here that many on the list are sometimes packed, sometimes nearly empty. Wicked is never empty. My guess on average is what I listed, though.
My only other recommendation is to have a backup list of student rushes or other things you're eligible for, as well as Playbill discounts, which may net you a better seat or a lower price than going to TKTS after the lottery.
I just checked Playbill.com and I didn't miss any on my first try. Is that sad or what?
Thanks very much for your reply. I wasn't sure, since I was in NY around Spring Break and ALL lotteries seemed terribly crowded. I tried 9 times (YF, Hairspray, Wicked and Q) and only won once (Wednesday matinee at YF).
So I hope it'll be different this time around... I've already seen Wicked so I can scratch the toughest one off my list.
Thanks again, I'll be sure to report here afterwards. :)
I want to say Ave Q is like 2nd hardest to win just because of the number of seats they give out.
I'd be inclined to say that, too, ssh, but the last time I did Rent it was a Tuesday night and over 100 people were there for the 34 seats. I went to Ave Q for a Sat matinee and there were 20 people there for the 12 seats, so it may just be small sample bias on my part.
Oh no, if I had those numbers I'd be biased too.
Random Lotto Question:
When a random person and their friend both win the tickets they want- do you think it's fair when they yell in the crowd" who wants tickets" and give it to the first person who like clobbers them? Or should they say we don't need them to the guy and let the lotto decide who gets them?
I don't think that's allowed. It's better to just say you don't need the tickets and let them pick another name.
