SPARKLE to be adapted for Broadway

Producer Howard Rosenman Rosenman also is teaming with Joel Schumacher to add five new songs to those by Curtis Mayfield (in the original) and R. Kelly (in the 2012 version) for a full-blown Broadway musical interpretation of Sparkle.

I'm excited, and I'd see it, but isn't this story awfully close to Dreamgirls? I wonder how that will affect it. It could be positive.

I remember reading somewhere that Sparkle inspired Dreamgirls in addition to The Supremes/Motown.

Hey, I've got a great idea for a star-is-born type backstage musical set in the 1930s! It's called "43rd Street!"

And this other idea about a bunch of animals in Africa, only this little girl leopard loses her parents and goes searching for her identity and purpose in life. It's called "The Leopard Queen."

I saw the original film from the 70's and thought it was one of the worst films I'd ever seen. It's too close to Dreamgirls, but without any of the magic. It's impossibly dull. I can't even remember any of the songs or the character's names or anything.

Maybe the new version will be better. Doubtful, but still...
