SPRING AWAKENING back on TKTS

I saw SPRING AWAKENING up for tomorrow's matinee at the TKTS at the South Street Seaport about an hour ago.
Is it already back up on the boards? That was a short-lived sell out.

Posted: 7/7/07 at 3:48pmIndeed that was fast. I guess all the tourist are coming to see it but don't really know how much a ticket cost so when they get there they don't wish to pay. Woah...where did that theory come from?

Posted: 7/7/07 at 3:50pmI don't know how long of a life it is going to have. My guess is that there are a very small amount of tickets that they actually released to TKTS. I think they only gave them some so they can completely sell it out.

"That was a short-lived sell out."
Looking at the grosses, it still hasn't sold out 8 shows yet. It's come very, very, very close, but never fully.
I've read articles and heard rumblings that the advance after the Tonys reached a good $2-3 million, which, for a show which got unanimous raves and nearly swept the Tonys, isn't something to be proud of.
And it's still only recouped 35%.

LIVE THAT LESSON!!!!!!

Posted: 7/7/07 at 6:02pmit's easy to see why it's not selling out....when families come in, they don't want to see Spring Awakening..it would be completely inappropriate for kids. They would rather see Wicked, Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, etc. that's just my 2 cents

Eh, unlikely I think, even if it ends up back on the TKTS boards. A lot of shows on TKTS do some time (at some point) on the TDF list, but it's not an automatic thing once a show appears on TKTS. Spring Awakening was on TDF for a little while in the fall/winter I believe, and I think that'll be it for a while. I'm sure shows almost always make more money off of tickets sold at TKTS than they do on TDF tickets, so no reason for Spring Awakening to be listed on TDF. It's not doing that poorly, certainly.

Posted: 7/7/07 at 8:05pmI agree with biggest CHENO fan. SPRING AWAKENING is not a family show in the least. That is why its numbers are not completely through the roof. Just because a show got unanimous raves and won a bunch of Tony Awards doesn't mean it's going to sell out. Reviews and Tonys are not the do all end all of what sells out theatres anymore. Shows that are a recognizable commodity, appeal to a family audience, and have a family-friendly advertising campaign are what sells tickets. SPRING is not trying to be anything it's not. Its numbers are more than fine. It isn't a jukebox musical and it isn't based on a movie, so it's not going to have JERSEY BOYS numbers.
