I love the OBC but Patinkin is a bit much. Isn't Phillip Quast on the London recording. He is great.

Is there only a London Cast Recording? I heard a song from it, don't remember which one but it was a guy singing and it was so good.

The first recording was of the Broadway Cast, with Patinkin and Luker. I'm not fans of either, so I'm hoping the London Cast is more to my liking. It's a great score. Dark and touching. "How Could I Ever Know?" is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard.

Is there a recording of Anthony Warlow's version from down under?

The London Cast is very different from the Original Broadway Cast. The shows have been re-arranged and altered. I loved the show and found things I enjoyed in both versions. I prefer the Original Broadway, but I found Linzi Hateley's Martha on the London to be amazing...I still love Alison Fraser more though. If you love the score I say "get it"...And yes, there is a 5 track CD with highlights from the Australian Cast with Anthony Warlow, Philip Quast (who's also on the London Cast) and Marina Prior.

After being in love with the OBC for years, I've come to much prefer the London recording. The orchestrations (if possible) have been improved, the show has been tightened, and the cast is fantastic -- particularly the Mary.

I also have both, but having seen the Broadway production a couple of times and repeatedly listening to it, I favor that one. Side note: Frances Rufelle's daughter Eliza was one of the Mary's in the London production (but not on the recording).

I love the OLC. Linzi Hateley is simply amazing. I think you should buy it if you're a fan.

The OLC is leaps and bounds better than the OBC. Quast in Patinkin's role doesn't "overdramatize" for effect. The little girl playing "Mary" has a beautiful voice for a child-- well trained and placed (far cries better from Daisy Eagan). Linzi Hateley shines as "Martha" (the woman could sing the phone book and I'd buy it). You can tell Craig Purnell is having a blast playing/singing "Dickon". People have quipped about Meredith Braun's "Lily" being too young, but that never bothered me because if the character died young, wouldn't it make sense. Braun's soprano shines on "How Could I Ever Know" and "Come To My Garden". The boy playing "Colin" sounds trained as well, as opposed to the OBC. I've stopped listening to the OBC and prefer this one now.
