Are there any shows you hated/ disliked the first time you've seen them but decided or are going to decide to see it again and give it another shot?
For me, it was Spring Awakening which I hated in March bu tloved in July and still love now. (Seen it 13 times)
Another one was Chorus Line. I disliked it when I saw it In Jan 07, but after re-visiting in May 07, I fell in love with it. I have seen it now 14 times.
I plan on re-visiting In The Heights. I strongly dislike it, but am going to give it another shot- what the hell!
Does anyone else plan on doing this?

I really didn't get into Wicked when I first saw it.
In fact, I really didn't think it was very good at all.
Maybe I'll give it a second chance on tour or something, but for me its just not worth it.
I would, however, like to get a fresh perspective on the show, just to see if its better the second time.

Posted: 5/13/08 at 10:52pmI've seen a lot I life but the only thing I didn't like was Little Mermaid but I think if I went back and had better seats and every thing I would have liked it a little more

Posted: 5/13/08 at 10:56pmI actually saw Glory Days twice in previews. The second time, a friend needed someone to fill a seat, so I figured what the heck? I won't say it was good the second time, but I noticed what was wrong with it and what could be FIXED a lot more... although we all know how that one turned out.

When I saw CHICAGO back in 1998 I hated it because I still wanted all shows to be big spectacles of crashing chandeliers and helicopters landing on stage. So the minimalism of CHICAGO made me hate it with a capital H!
But then I saw it again a couple years ago, and I was like wowwwwwwwwwwwwww is this a good show. And then since last Christmas, I've been seeing it every so often and it is now one of my most beloved shows.

I LOATHED A Chorus Line the first time I saw it at a Thespian Festival.
Bought the movie. LOATHED IT.
I bought the new cast recording back in Dec. 2006. Now I'm fully obsessed.
I don't know why I stuck with it.

You know what Spring Awakening is another one. I used to watch the video for Bitch of Living all the time on youtube before I saw the show in previews. I kind of suspected that the rest of the show wouldn't keep up the energy of Bitch of Living. When I saw it in December 2006, I watched Bitch of Living, and I thought "well its all downhill from here" and other than Totally f-- in the second act. So I left thinking "the show was OK" And of course that first time, taking high school students to see the show, and having NO IDEA of some of the things that would happen on stage....wow that was an experience.
But then I saw the show again and again and again and again and I bought the CD, and now I actually enjoy all the songs, and they are all beautiful in different ways, and the show is now more than Bitch of Living.

I didn't really care much for Rent when I first heard it, but after I heard the whole show I became obsessed with it and I still am.
I also didn't care too much for West Side Story or Assassins when I first listened to them, but then I saw my school do both shows and I was able to put the songs in context, I fell in love with both. With Assassins I can now sit through it over and over again and not get sick of it.

I rarely see any production more than once, even if I like it. I will consider seeing a different production of a piece I didn't care for, but wouldn't go back to the same one (unless there were some extreme circumstance that caused me to have a negative experience the first time.)
It sounds a little like hitting your head against a wall over and over.

I didn't much like Legally Blonde when I saw it, yet I watched it on MTV and I may very well see it on the tour. I don't know if I'm giving it more chances to capture my affection, I think it's just some sort of bizarre masochism.
I can't think of anything else, really, because I'm a goober and like almost everything I see.

"Why would you see anything 13 or 14 times? See other shows!!!"
13 or 14 times is a bit extreme but I have seen some shows more than once. But every time I've seen a show it's been essentially a different show because every time I go the cast is different. Even if it's just one cast member that has changed it's still a different show because that actor brings something new to the character. I've Hairspray four times since last summer; I saw two different Tracys, 2 Ednas, 3 Wilburs, 2 Links, 3 Seaweeds, 2 Inezs, 2 Velmas, and 2 Cornys. Each one of the actors delivered different performances and brought out something different in the characters. So while I have seen Hairspray more than once I feel that each time was different than the time before.
I might consider giving a second chance to Little Mermaid if I wasn't sitting in the very first row and if it wasn't a matinee.

Posted: 5/14/08 at 2:19amI gave CRY-BABY a second chance, after only having seen it early in previews. The second time I saw it was after it had opened, and it was just as god awful. Of course, the tickets were free both times. I never would have paid to see that show a second time, and am certainly glad I didn't lose any money seeing it the first time.

I saw Cry-Baby during previews and thought it was pretty funny. I would give it another chance after all the changes but probably not for full price.
Also, I really don't know how someone could "hate" or "dislike" something at first then just start loving it. It usually happens the other way around for me. You see something like Wicked the first time and enjoy it but on subsequent viewings, you notice the flaws more.

Posted: 5/14/08 at 5:26amI hated "Cats" when I first saw it on Broadway- even the fact that Betty Buckley was in it couldn't change my mind. (huge BB fan) ANyway, a friend of mine was in a production in Long Island recently, and she INSISTED that I go. I still don't love it, but it was OK the second time around. I also felt the same way about Wicked- didn't like it the first time, but went back with my godson twice and I LOVE it now!!!

Posted: 5/14/08 at 5:32amI swore I'd never love a production of Diary of Anne Frank after seeing two pretentious versions. I saw it a few months ago and it was one of the most moving, important evenings I've ever had in the theatre.

When I first saw the PASSION DVD, I couldn't get past "I Read." I thought it was the dullest, most boring, weirdest musical I had seen. How could the man who wrote INTO THE WOODS write...this?
Then, about a year passed probably, and I came to know and become obsessed with SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE, and I started listening to other Sondheim pieces. Randomly, I decided to see PASSION again, and now it's among my top five favorite musicals.
Also, the first time I listened to the CAROLINE, OR CHANGE cast recording, I thought it was too odd for my taste and there were no "songs" so I didn't like it. Then I saw the clip of Tonya Pinkins singing "Lot's Wife" and decided I had to go back get that cast recording, little by little I got into the music more and more, now it's my top favorite musical...
Interestingly enough, I'm like that with people as well, I disliked all of my best friends when I first met them.
