Anyone know what the "major" song of Deloris' that was cut according to Alan Menken? I'm hoping hoping it's not "Fabulous, Baby" because what a great number. I can't imagine what else it could be.
If it's gone, it'll go down as yet another wonderful song lost to cuts.

Posted: 1/17/07 at 7:07pmI think it's "Would it Kill Me", but there is so much more to cut. The songs given to the mobsters are down right awful and completely out of place. I like the show, but it has a long way to go.

Posted: 1/17/07 at 7:16pmI COMPLETELY agree Bobby. It has so far to go, even though I did enjoy the show. The song "Sister Act" was awful, but I think a lot of it lies with chemistry, too, esp. between Delores and Mother Superior because I think their chemistry definitely lacked.

Oh really? They cut the song "Sister Act"? I thought that song was pretty good, but hardly the best.
Also, I think cutting "Would it Kill Me" is/would be a good idea. I know it was kind of supposed her big number, but I just felt like it couldn't match up to "The Life I Never Lead" by any means. That number was really powerful so it just made me feel kind of like I didn't really care about the next big number.
It was a good show though...

I think Sister Act was rightfully cut and I'm pretty sure "Goin' to Hell" is probably headed for a similar situation.
There's next to no way the big Deloris cut is "Would it Kill Me". Menken stated they wrote a new song and that it is reprised twice during the rest of the show. I'm afraid that Fabulous Baby is most likely gone.
I saw the 4th performance or something, so I had that in mind as I was watching the show, but I agree it has a ways to go. Regardless, I went in with a lot of trepidation--I love the movie and Menken seems rather "blah" to me without Howard Ashman, but what I found was one of Menken's most interesting scores in years and a product that, with a lot of improvement, should turn out to be a very satisfactory adaptation.
