I finally got Snoopy and The Secret Garden today! Well, here are my reviews:
Snoopy-I love the music. It's catchy and adorable. Not Sondheim, but it's very cute. The problem is the cast. I saw the cast with Sutton Foster in April so hearing these tone-deaf people was a huge surprise. They were constantly flat, sharp or just plain bad. If you can overlook the cast, you can enjoy the music.
The Secret Garden-Flawless. Gorgeous score and an amazing cast.

Which Secret Garden? The RSC?
If so, it's beautiful. I actually prefer it to the OBC, which I never thought could be done.

Posted: 2/3/05 at 7:09pmI love the Secret Garden OBC. I'm glad you enjoy it as well! That was the first show I saw on Broadway, so it holds a special place in my heart.

Posted: 2/3/05 at 7:10pmAh, yes...I love the OBC. The Secret Garden is one of the most underrated, gorgeous shows ever written. The newer London Royal Shakespeare Company recording somehow managed to top the OBC's orchestrations and cast, as well as refining the show a more straight-forward through-line.

Posted: 2/3/05 at 7:19pmI must say, I'm very jealous you got to see the Snoopy concert. That's something I would have loved to see (such a great cast!), but unfortunately, I'm nowhere near NY.

Posted: 2/3/05 at 7:20pmThe CD is black, with a red flower on the front and a girl's face coming out of the center of the flower. It's from London. You might check www.footlight.com. That's where I got mine, but it's been a while.

Posted: 2/3/05 at 9:10pmI was lucky enough to get cast as Neville in a regional production of The Secret Garden many years ago - and it was one of the highlights of my career. It is such a beautiful show - I wish it was presented more often. Isn't it about time for a revival?

Posted: 2/3/05 at 9:11pmLucky! I really want a revival. Too bad I pretty much just became too old to audition for Mary!

The Secret Garden is by far one of the best scores ever written for Broadway. It captures the essence of the story gorgeously.
I had the priveleges to play Dickon and Capt. Albert Lennox a couple of years ago.
Glad you enjoy the CD of the OBC!!! I LOVE IT!!!

yes, the secret garden has one of the most beautiful and touching score. And OBC is the best of the three recordings.

Snoopy? Not Sondheim?
I thought he wrote that.
(imagining Sondheim being playful and melodic)
