I'm thirteen and I'm starting out acting, and I bet this is probably a stupid question but can someone tell me about SAG and Equity??
Thanx! Does anyone think it's necessary to join equity?

If you want to do higher up professsional theater (Broadway) you must join equity, or get into a show from an open casting call. Although you're 13, theres absolutely no reason to until you get older.
And do not join it unless you plan to work on broadway because very very very few theatres can afford equity actors. You have to really be the best of the best to waste you time with it. And not just anybody can get in. You have to be offered it, or work for years to get enough points. Ya can't just pay a fee and be in.
There are a lot of regional theatres that take equity actors, but the majority of that market is also on the east coast. I took my card at 16. It hasn't turned out to be any problem for me, but some actors never work again. YOu should really take the time to really evaluate your talent honestly with yourself. If you don't see yourself actually making it on Broadway, then don't bother.
I went to the equity website and it wasn't really clear. What would a person have to do to join equity?
