Speed-The-Plow Change?

Hi y'all. I was just wondering if anyone knows how long the current cast of this show (Speed-The-Plow) are signed on for. I know it's a limited engagement so I would assume they are staying throughout the entire run, but wanted to make sure. I'm trying to fill out the rest of my trip and this seems interesting. And although Mamet himself should be a sell for me, it's more this particular cast that I'm interested in seeing. Thanks!
Oh, and if it matters (though I talk about it in my signature) my trip is in February.

Posted: 12/6/08 at 7:45amIt is assumed that the cast was signed for the duration of the limited engagement run. If for nothing else, see it for Raul Esparza -- he's magnificent.

Posted: 12/6/08 at 8:14amThen I pose one more question if it's not too much trouble. Has anyone tried rush? I'm wondering if I should get a ticket soon or wait until I'm there. But I'd really like to see this. I've liked Piven for quite some time and since I saw the DVD of Company some time ago have been nursing a (healthy) obsession with Raul. So yay.

Posted: 12/6/08 at 8:18amI don't know about Rush cause I haven't done it but I think it is constantly on TKTS.

Posted: 12/6/08 at 8:29amOooh good to know. Now sorry if this is a dumb question, but I've never done TKTS before. Where are these seats generally located? Or could it be anywhere? I only ask because I know with rush there are usually certain areas reserved for that. So just wondering what to expect. Has it been doing really well? On the one hand, by the time I go it will have had two and a half more months for people to go see it/lose interest. On the other, though, I'm there the last week of the show. Hmmm. Very excited nonetheless and will now definitely add this to my list of other shows to likely add (which basically includes Gypsy two more times, 33 Variations, Blithe Spirit, Avenue Q, Shrek, Guys and Dolls, A:OC, and maybe Distracted). Woo! And thank you for the quick responses. They are greatly appreciated.

They are contracted for the full engagement, which ends February 22nd. I would assume that if there is to be an extension, all three of them might not be able to stay.
I did rush a few weeks ago. The seats were in the front mezzanine, but the location is totally random depending on what they have. TKTS is the same way. It's been selling reasonably well. I saw it shortly before Thanksgiving and I think the house was almost full. If it's on your must-see list, I would advise you to buy tickets now. If you'd be okay with hypothetically missing it (though I don't think you'd have that hard a time getting tickets in February), then play it by ear. Although I think any Raul fan who has the opportunity to see him live would be stupid to give that up, but that's just my two cents.

Posted: 12/6/08 at 9:06amThank you for the detailed response, luvtheEmcee. Good to know it has been selling reasonably well, since that makes it much less likely to be hurt by these times. I think I will probably buy a ticket then since you are right, I would be stupid to miss the chance to see him live, especially in something like this. By any chance does anyone know of any promo codes that exist that do not expire until the show ends? Or at least that might be used for a trip from 2/13 - 3/2. The sites I tried have codes that expire before then. Thanks again.

I wouldn't exactly suggest paying full price; I think there's a discount on Playbill. If that one doesn't stretch into your trip, though, you must just have to wait a few weeks for a new one to pop up -- which it probably will.
I do also have to say that if you go in wanting to compare this performance to Bobby, you will be disappointed. He's great anyway, it's just a totally different side of him, in a play that has almost no emotional subtext.

Posted: 12/6/08 at 9:24amI agree, if there is a discount online go with that. Because TKTS can be a hassle and it's not guaranteed. The seats are normally all over the place. They probably won't be Center Orchestra front row but they ill be good. I have had Back of the Center Orchestra for Drowsy Chaperone. Mezzanine Left for Xanadu. And Left Orchestra third row for Shrek. So that proves they are all over.

Posted: 12/6/08 at 9:29amI rushed this production very early in the run. I got there 2 hours before curtain (6 pm for the 8 pm Thursday evening show) and two friends and I were able to get great orchestra seats, row M or something. Full view.

Posted: 12/6/08 at 10:06amWow. All these responses. See this is why I love BWW so very much. Will check around to see if there is a code that applies and if not I'm happy to rush. See I don't mind getting there abominably early, I just hate lottery since that's left to chance. If it's just a matter of getting there early (I usually only rush the mornings of matinee-days) it's fine. Good to know about TKTS, as I wasn't sure what sections they gave out. Makes sense that it is just at random I suppose if that's what is available. And I will absolutely go in not expecting Bobby. If anything that's one of the reasons I am so excited to see this, since I can't really imagine him in a straight play (though his book scenes in Company, particularly the end, were performed phenomenally).

I liked Piven, I thought "she" was just ok...but think that's the fault of the character;
BUT RAUL.....is worth the price of admission. Act III is ALL HIS. He's amazing. Would pay full price to see him again. He should DEF get nominated and I would love to see him win the Tony.

Just like everyone says- Raul is a wonder in this show, truly amazing!
As for rush, if you get there two hours prior you'll get tickets (especially in Feb when the tourists are slim). I went at two hours prior and got a wonderful seat row L on the aisle. The tickets for rush are a scattering of the best available for the performance, so they can be all over the theatre, but it's a small house.

I saw Raul in The Homecoming last year and he was truly terrific. And he's also nice in person, too.
In a way, this thread sort of answered a question of mine as well; because I'd been wondering if it was at all possible to get tickets for a February performance (when I would have the money to go and see the show).
