Spring Awakening Cast

Now that the theater is confirmed for SA (yay), does anyone know if the entire cast is moving forward? I hope so. Also, does anyone know who the understudies are? There werent any listed when I saw it but I think someone mentioned that they were added late.

I think there is going to be some recasting. The two leads are definitely continuing.

The young cast has been announced, and they're all transferring. The adult parts are being recast.

they are currently looking for future replacements for the youth leads and ensemble as well as u/s. I believe Devyn Rush is u/s for the youth ensemble girls and Pheobe Strole who plays Anna is understudying Lea Michele.

Casting call has auditions up for ensemble.

ETA do you think they would hear any crashers at this audition?

I was wondering the same thing aspiring. And they said they're looking to go as young as 14, but would they honestly consider it if a 14 year old auditioned? The cast who play the roles full time is much older even though the ages are 13-15.

My friend who is in it is actually only 17. And I believe there is a 16 year old too. But the rest are closer to 20. But it wouldn't hurt to audition....you never know (if they will see you).

I know that the lead boy...forget his name....is like 21. Lea Michele is 20. And I believe there are more 19-21 year olds floating throughout the cast. I saw the auditions posted and I was confused as to why they are looking for them to look 13-15yo. None of the kids in the cast are that young nor do they look that young. Especially the male part of the cast. Who knows. Hello hairspray, all of the "Nicest kids in town" are suppose to be 16-17...everyone they usually cast is like mid 20's. And they sure dont look 16-17.

I disagree - I think several of the cast, particularly the girls look no older than 14 or 15. They are going for authenticity. HAIRPSRAY is satire. Like GREASE, it was never the intent to cast actual teenagers in the roles for stage.

Ok you are right. I take that back. I will agree that the girls look 14 and 15. Especially the youngest girl. But the male cast doesn't look that young in my opinion. And Lea Michele looks 20.

Because of the sexual nature of the show, I think its actually imperative that the two leads read as "young" but that the audience feels confident that they are over 18. It would completely alienate the audience with discomfort if there was any question that Lea Michele and Jonathan Groff weren't teenagers. Very shrewd casting on Michael Mayer's part if you ask me.

So would it be worth it to even try at the auditions or do you think a non equity person won't get seen?

I don't know. My friend and I were thinking of going, but honeslty this is just a required call and they dont need anyone. Between Agent submissions and all, they will get their couple of understudies and whatever without the Equity Call. They will have open calls at some point for us non-equity people.....maybe
