I went to Stars In The Alley and even though:
1. It was raining
2. I could not see
3. I was packed like a sardine sandwich(ugh)
I stayed.
I think Shubert Alley is a bad place for a concert.
It would have been more effective in a theater or a park.
The set up sucked and all I could see were the press agents and their stars after they were finished.
Not that there is anything wrong with that.
Last summer there were similiar concerts every week in Bryant Park. They were much more effective and people could see and were not smushed like sardines in a can.
Does anyone know if the Bryant Park lunch series will happen this year?
I would love to know!
I also can not believe Bernadette presented awards and did not sing. I came to hear her and she presented a star to mayor Bloomberg. Why does she never sing at these events?
Highlights of this event:
Urinetown performed they messed up a few times which was very funny and the new star from Ed was late.
Mr Cavanaugh is very cute and it was a funny bit.
Sutton sang Jimmy to perfection of course.
The new Belle sang very well from Beauty and the Beast.
The best number was the Impossible Dream, EVERY TIME I HEAR BRIAN STOKES MITCHELL he moves me.
He has such a breathtaking voice and literally takes my breath away!
You are a trooper, I would have never made through those conditions!

Heh -- I was there too... standing right by the Shubert Stage door with a long black dress coat, red top and black pants. I was the only one wearing sunglasses because of the spotlight in my face... Where were you standing Dame?
I did not applaud for Bloomberg, and many others in my section refrained from doing so as well. All the performances were very good -- I was excited to get a sneak peak of the new Mama, Camille. She was excellent and she'll be fierce up on stage!
Looooved Carolee and the cast of Urinetown singing Privelige to Pee. That was wonderfully done despite the rain. :)
Frog and Toad looks cute -- too bad it's closing.
Btw, may I add that the guy from Take Me Out (Daniel Sunjata) is a very nice piece of eye candy. Yuuuuuuummmmm-my!
I'm sure I had other thoughts on SITA but I am still half asleep and the only other thoughts *really* in my head right now are how much Roxane and Tracy kicked ass! Yeah, yeah, they were wonderful... after 3 shows, I almost lost my voice from screaming so much but it was SO worth it... If it weren't for the fact that I know I HAVE to go to bed at a decent hour tonight I would go back in for tonight's show. I'm such a glutton. Ah well, I'll be there for all 3 shows this weekend :)

"Why does she never sing at these events?"
I think it's because she tries to preserve her voice when not in the theater. But seriously, a lot of people where probably there just to see her (along with others). She could have sung something.
I think they only had Bernadette present the star to Bloomberg b/c he presented "Gypsy" with something on opening day and declared May 1st "National Curtain Up on Gypsy Day." You can see the document hanging up in the Shubert Theater.
I hope she sings at Broadway on Broadway....she did when she was in Annie Get Your Gun (I think?).
What did Frog and Toad sing? Anyone know?
And did Don Stephenson (Leo Bloom) of The Producers perform?
