Sorry about the really vague title...storrryyy isss....
I started interest in musical theatre about a month ago, and when you guys talk about classical musicals, I'm lost. I've been listening to a lot more contemporary musicals i.e. Wicked, Rent, POTO, and bits and pieces of other musicals. Sadly, I've only SEEN Phantom and Julie Hanson just wrecked it for me. <3'd Hugh and Cuida though.
So..what are some songs I should be familiar with? And if I upload a short clip of me singing, would you guys be willing to give some tips? I'm thinking of starting private lessons as well, but I don't know whether to get sort of..a beginner teacher of "advanced" teacher.

try listening to the more classic musicals- oklahoma, show boat, chicago, or guys and dolls are some suggestions.
also, if you want to expand your broadway knowledge listen to all different composers. sondhiem, jrb, gershwin, loesser to name just a few.

He was. His brother Ira did most of his lyrics.

His brother, Ira Gershwin, was the lyricist.
EDIT: You just -had- to beat me by twenty seconds, didn't you Gov?
