Hello, I'm writing a paper discussing how strange and bizarre things in the theatre business are actually not all that strange or bizarre. Compared to other business settings, my paper will show that VERY odd things can happen in the theatre business and, yet, somehow, the business keeps booming.

I'd like to ask anyone who reads this to try and think of the strangest theatrical news in 2005 that you remember. For instance, Sweet Charity announced closing, then opening, then closing, etc-- That, to me, was strange. Or perhaps Idina Menzel injuring herself the day before her last performance, etc. There are likely many more strange things or unprecidented problems. I'd like to hear what everything thinks.

Also, if you agree with what someone has already posted, it would be helpful to me if you'd put that in a post. This way, if there is something overwhelmingly mentioned, I'll be sure to include that in the paper. Thanks.

Oddest Events in 2005 (in my opinion, at least):
Idina hurting herself before her last show
Sweet Charity closing and opening and beating all the odds
Fiddler on the Roof becoming the most goyish show on Broadway...with Harvey Fierstein doing a complete 360 and playing a more convincing straight man than most straight men. Oh yeah, and Rosie O'Donnell being a box office draw.
In My Life surviving as long as it has
The Lion King movign to the Minskoff, and Movin Out being forced to closed to make way for Tarzan

Edited to remove any potentially offensive material. Sorry about that.

I would be cautious with the Fiddler one---Harvey and Rosie are ACTORS. That they are both gay shouldn't have been the news story that everyone has made it.

No one says anything when straight actors play gay.

Oh NO! Tell me Ms. Chenowith was NOT on Pat Robertson's 700 Club!!
He is a right wing pig of the Pious, Hateful & Devout! I know she is a "Christian", but REAL Christians are NOT found near that hateful man. How sad if this is true.

Wow! I still adore Kristin Chenoweth's work as a perfomer, but my opinion of her as a person has just changed.

Who'da thought! Sweet little Glinda..

Let's not rehash this. She apologized. She is not anti-gay in any way. She does not associate herself with Roberston--he wasn't even on the show when she did it.

Well this may not be "strange" but I find it surprising that the big budget extravaganga Chitty Chitty Bang Bang didn't even last a year. The cast was so very talented and the sets were great.

Agreed Steve. I'm not surprised now that I've seen the show, but I expected it to be a huge hit.
