Lansbury owns that role as much as anyone can own a role.
She owns it more than Carol Channing owns Dolly Levi, if that's possible. More than Preston owns Harold Hill.
The role is hers, and she plays it to perfection.

I don't dislike Lansbury by any means, she was my first Lovett and I will always enjoy her; but I prefer LuPone's take on the role.
I, for one, don't understand how people can think Neil Patrick Harris' portrayal of Tobias surpasses the brilliance of Ken Jennings. But that's another story, nevermind, anyway ...

Ken Jennings and NPH gave such different performances and they both work(ed) extremely well.

LoL, again - not hatin', I just don't think he "surpasses" Ken Jennings. I don't agree when others refer to him as the "definitive Toby".
