Sweet Charity lyrics question

I was listening to SC -- in Charity's monologue, it SOUNDS like she says "lower the boom" but the lyrics I said say she says "lower the poem" -- either way, what in the world does that MEAN??? It's odd, because melodically I love the way that line is sung, but, as they say in the Sound of Music, it doesn't MEAN anything!

She's probably referring to Charly. or yes, Charity lowers the boom on all men!

i think it just has to do with her wanting to close her heart frm men.
