In terms of Oscar - I think Richard Griffiths will make it into final consideration for a nod (probably Supporting Actor) however competition will be tough this year. His nomination will depend on how well the film is received.

The only other category consideration I predict will be Adapted Screenplay - which I think might be the film's best chance.

I'd say the odds of Griffiths (or just about anything else History Boys-related) getting nominated for anything is looking pretty grim. A couple days ago the British Independent Film Award nominations came out and I think the only nominations the film got were for de la Tour (and I definitely don't see her making the cut for the biggies of awards season) Alan Bennett for screenplay (but I think it was some specialized category for screenplay, or something, not just your regular original/adapted screenplay...but I could be wrong, I don't recall). Then Sam Barnett and Dominic Cooper were nominiated for Breakthrough Performance.

No nomination for Griffiths, no Best Picture/Director nominations. If they aren't even getting nominated for the British Indy Awards, I just don't see them making it very far on this side of the pond. I guess there's still a possibility for a Golden Globe nomination or two, since they have the Musical/Comedy category, but I'd be surprised. I don't think it's been getting particularly stellar reviews.

I just want to scoop up a nice gunk of gel and go wild with Dakin's hair -- pull it forward, anything. Oy. But of course, I get it, it's the 80s, so it makes sense, but I liked his hair in the show so much better. Ahh, Dommy...so pretty.

It is a hott trailer. Bound to be a good movie for those interested in seeing it.

But I noticed also that they creatively steered away from any allusion as to WHY Hector is asked to retire. Sort of like how the RENT trailers didn't let non-Bway people know it was a musical :)

why give away all the movie in the trailer?

frankly, i'dve been pissed if they revealed Hector's groping tendancies in the movie.
