"Planning ahead": not a familiar concept.
"Panic": a very familiar concept.
"Limited Run": We know this wouldn't last very long anyways (see: Pacific Overtures)
"90% Capacity": Barely breaking even.
"After the Fall": They're going to miss Assassins when it's gone.
"Non-profit": A valid excuse.
Tuesday they announce the future of Assassins.

I honestly dont know what happened to that bunch, save that maybe by moving into the new house they got "all hat and no cattle", as we say out here. When they were in the old space, the productions seemed better thought out and, in general, planned. Now, it's almost like "OK, we gotta do a Sondheim if we want to make some money!" -- and then they turn around and give us these horrendous productions (Sorry, wasnt real fond of ASSASSINS, and FOLLIES was a complete insult).
Thank you Jamie for bringing this up. I don't understand it either. They would make so much more money if they ditched the non-profit bull **** and just did open engagments. (NINE and ASSASSINS both followed the same path.)

The revival of FOLLIES improved later in its run. It really is an excellent example of the need for out-of-town try-outs.
bear in mind the whole economic reasoning...a non-profit limited-engagement means a different kind of contract with Equity. If the show is successful and transfers to a longer run, the production contract kicks in. i thought there was some brilliance in this ASSASSINS and generally a first rate cast. Wasn't NINE theirs as well? They need to look for the next CABARET to pay the bills as they take riskier ventures. And not every film star is Antonio (either of the Miller plays as examples---except wasn't CRUCIBLE theirs as well?---FALL and the early one with O'Donnell were far riskier).

I dont think so. I thought that was a commercial production. All I do remember of it was a very scary piece of set design. :)
IBDB sez it was produced by "special arrangement with The Roundabout Theatre Company"...wish i could have seen it. Like Linney and Liam. Like most Miller. Didn't Roundabout also do VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE? if so, Miller and Sondheim should be writing new shows for them! they've done a lot of the respective canons...
