"I am on the precipice looking down into a dead volcano on my left, on the right it is sheer shale. I am in thongs and sarong and no hiking boots. I realize I can’t go back the way I have come. I can’t."
Jesus
Her volcano story sounds more interesting then TOTD
That is literally the most ridiculous quote I have read in a news article this year. And that's just 24 hours after Sheen-gate's happened.
And she wishes she had Jesus's style and class. Now there was a man who knew how to put on a show. People have been staging revivals of his production for a couple thousand years now.
"And it’s this incredible balance that I think we walk when we are breaking ground, that’s trying to do something that you’ve never seen before..."
So they have achieved this. They have had their problems along the way but there have been no accidents for weeks now and the show, from what I hear, is visually stunning for the most part and people fly. Does she now consider a good book and music "breaking ground"? It seems that is the major problem with this show, according to critics and word of mouth. I am hoping to see it soon.
Wait.
With a show this f*cked up, what the hell is she doing in Long Beach, California?
I think they said it was via satellite.
I suspect that she was scheduled to speak at this conference. I am sure she didn't expect her show to be having these problems at this time.

What on earth are you talking about?! She isn't playing the victim or playing a sad violin in any part of that.
The volcano story illustrates how she, in this moment, must keep her eye focused on making the show better and not worrying about the "volcano" on one side, etc. It's about perseverance and seeing a project through even when it becomes difficult or isn't coming together.
She was speaking at TED. All of the speeches are inspirational, i.e. self-help, and taken out of context could easily sound self-absorbed.
She may be guilty of putting together a show you dislike and a lack of humility at times, but this cynicism is ridiculous.

Wait, I thought she was a visionary...
I thought she sounded a bit like charlie sheen.
She was there. To return to NYC shortly.
Maybe she'll write an opera about Charlie Sheen.
All right, Taymor is a bit self-righteous, but to put a huge picture of Jesus on the cross above the link (marked "Jesus") was too much. She's not painting herself as a Christ-like martyr. She's just using a lot of flowery verbiage to talk about her artistic journey with the show. Yes it's annoying, but not as dramatic or offensive as the initial post leads us to believe.
