Incidentally, I'm not denying the Nineties tour was tacky. I recall finding a reviewer who described the show as "raggedly glitzy," and having seen (ahem) video of it, I'd have to say that's being charitable. You could also tell the producers were aiming at the Christian market with everything they added during the Overture, like the Adam & Eve sequence and John the Baptist being beheaded, to say nothing of the ascension at the end.
However, as is clear, my opinion is that talent was not the problem with this show.

Can we stop saying "oldness" and say "age". And, while we're at it, the word is "heat" not "hotness".

Posted: 8/23/12 at 4:47pmWell I'm excited. I LOVE the score, but have never gotten a chance to see it live, considering I am in North Carolina and only make it up to NYC once a year or so. I wanted to see the last revival soooo badly, but never got the chance. I will definitely be seeing this tour if it ever comes near me.

Posted: 8/23/12 at 6:07pmI'd recommend spending the money to fly to London for the new arena production. Or even a regional production. Or Hello Dolly in community theatre. ANYTHING over another Neeley JCS tour.

Posted: 8/23/12 at 9:06pmFor the last time, it's not another JCS tour. After 40 years of it, that's over. He's touring with solo material, new and old. Some songs from his theater days (Hair, JCS, Sgt. Pepper) will be featured, but he is not -- repeat, not -- wearing a robe and sandals this time around.

Posted: 8/24/12 at 10:43pmAnything? Even if he did a tour with Betty White as Mary and Morgan Freeman as Judas? And Dick Van Dyke as Herod? Man, I's even pay money to see that! That show could sit in Miami for six months. Actually, it would have to sit, as it would get too damn tired just standing around all the time, what with it's back problems, artificial hip, and bum knee from the War.

Posted: 8/24/12 at 10:50pmI'd pay big bucks to see Betty sing that score.

Which of course would make him tax exempt! Unless he's categorized as a "Loaf and Fish Divider"
