The Angry Inch -

No, this post is not about Dollypop.

It is about Hedwig and the Angry Inch. I saw it for the first time on DVD last night and enjoyed it. While not precisely my thing, there are some delightful songs and John Cameron Mitchell is wonderful. My other half enjoyed it even more than I did and we have already replayed a few musical numbers and are planning to add the dvd to our collection.

Teacher,
The live Off-Broadway production of this show was really wonderful.
If you liked the songs; you might also be interested in the new CD "Wig In A Box" which is a "tribute album" where various artists cover the songs from the show.

I guess you guys missed the thread where Namo told me about the DVD. I followed the link he gave me and ordered the DVD off of Amazon.com. Like you TOT, it wasn't 100% my thing but I did find it enjoyable. And as I told Namo--I didn't get the ending at all.

I liked "The Origin of Love" best. Both the music and the wonderful Vid/graphics that went with it.

I still have to watch the extras on the DVD but I will.

I actually wrote a similar reply to TOT in this thread but it was when the boards were being odd yesterday and never posted. I think Hedwig's one of those things that is deceptive because it works on many levels that aren't immediately revealed.

Also, I think the film has so many ingenious set pieces. Perhaps my favorite is the band playing to an audience of one on the Ninth Stage of the Menses Festival.

Anybody else see Michael Cerveris play in here in NY? I actually liked him better than the brilliant author (though he wasn't as pretty!) He was particularly creepy/wonderful when finally stripped down at the end.

I agree with those who say the show has layers. I had to be dragged to see it, and then was riveted.

DofB5 - I agree with you on that ending. I was totally lost, and I really enjoyed it up to there and then suddenly.....I thought maybe I had missed something along the way, but I guess not. I ordered the DVD so maybe that will give me a clue. I LOVE the music and I LOVED the performances.

Well I'm glad it wasn't just me. Namo was nice enough to explain part of it to me. I couldn't make my mind up. I thought Hedwig was saying that he accepted who he was as he was without the makeup and the wig. Is that what you thought, Aurora1958.

BTW 1958 was a very good year! The Angry Inch

#9 WIG IN A BOX

I always enjoy different versions of my favorite CDs and WIG IN A BOX was no exception. The only weak song for me was Yoko Ono's "Hedwig's Lament". All the songs are just as strong as in the show. I can't help but to think, has there recently been written a more haunting song than "Wicked Little Town"? I even thought Rufus Wainwright was surprisingly on key. (I have problems with Rufus. Love his music, not his singing.) And for anyone looking to Madonna as THE rolemodel for her generation I would suggest they listen to Cyndi Lauper. She's still got it. *Left up your hands!* Talent shows! And what a belt (since that seems to be such a barometer here).

Also the proceeds from the sale of the CD go to the Harvey Milk School.

Rest in peace, Iflitifloat.

This show was our ALL-TIME FAVE !!! The show was electric at the Jane Street theater. We saw all of the "Hedwigs". Ally Sheedy being the worst (in our opinion) by far. Seeing the last show was the highlight of our theater life to date.

Amazing !!!

The movie was quite an experience. I have never seen a movie where a queen finishes off a teenage boy in the bathtub.
