$10 for PHILIP ROTH IN KHARTOUM. It's part of the Public Theaters - Theater Lab series so there's not much in the way of production values. And at the Fri day performance we were told it was only the 14th time they had run thru the play , so in both acts an actor called for a line ( we were warned that might happen) and one time an actor forgot an important prop and another actor ran it onstage ( which they handled beautifully and was very funny). It's a simple story of four guys in ther 30's who meet everyday over coffee and later in the play the four wives who have never met , get together for a party. Not much to the story but the writing and acting are wonderful. The play actually reminded me of the movie DINER. The same very funny , quirky dialogue that tells you all you need to know about how the guys function and their pecking order. It could , and probably will , be trimmed abit but even as it stands it was a very satisfing evening in the theater. And damn , was it funny. Go !
