The more that I think about this, the more I realize that it could honestly work as a musical if the right composer was involved... not to mention the costumes would be fabulous.
I see it as potentially being a hit, particularly because of the success of the movie. If they got a couple of Tony winners to play Miranda and Andi (I'm thinking Christine Ebersole and Sutton Foster, but only because I would kill something furry to see those two in a show together), the industry "snob appeal" would be there as well.
Your thoughts?

The Devil wears Prada
She never wears nada,
She's always gotta
Have Prada on her.
Haha, I do agree, though. It really has the plot and the characters to make an enjoyable musical that isn't in it for the spectacle factor, but rather, the standard elements.

One of the few movie-musical transitions I might support...
I'd see it.
As long as it's "adapted by the novel" instead of "adapted by the movie".
I didn't like the changes at all. Why did they make him a cook?
Not to mention Tracie Thom's character is POINTLESS.
LOVE the book. LOVED the movie. It WOULD make an excellent musical... with changes made to go more with the book
It's an interesting idea. It's basically another Cinderella story or more acurately Cinderella meets My Fair Lady...
However, I fear the costume budget alone would scare off most producers! Even the movie producers were stunned with the cost. (I know, I know, if done in a theatre you truly don't need real designer clothes but imagine what us theatre queens would say about that!)

I can see what you mean, TomMonster, but at the same time, a lot of shows have one (or more) BIG things going for them; for example, Tarzan's is the whole aerial thing. Not since Hairspray has there really been a show that could have its major thing be costumes. I think that might attract a producer in present time, actually.
You're probably right, volleyballer, but GOD, I'm sick of gimmicky theatre. Keep it simple, real and just tell the story. Fantasticks, anyone?
I really dislike the movie to musical trend. Yet after seeing The Full Monty and enjoying Spamalot, I believe such shows can be done well. The have to stand on their own. For example, I have never seen The Full Monty movie, but the show stood on it's own and the plot was logical. I've seen lots of Python shows/movies, and while things were taken STRAIGHT from the movie it was mesh with what was best for the musical. I could imagine certain scenes of "The Devil Wears Prada" musical already. I really do think it could work because of the strong characters that drive the plot.

As much as I'm opposed to the movie-to-musical trend, I have to say I support this one.

I can see it being amazing, but I can't imagine it being a hit.
