Tell the League not to shut down Bway just to increase their profit margins.

To contact the League of American Theatres and Producers, you may call 212.764.1122 or e-mail them at league@broadway.org.

League President Charlotte St. Martin's e-mail address is cstmartin@broadway.org.

Director of communications for the League is Alan Cohen at acohen@broadway.org.

If you have hotel reservations, have them call or email the League. The same with your airlines and travel agents.

Well, you do not seem that informed to me. I find this post extremely funny because if you really were a stagehand and a part of the union you would realize that if we missed a show because of a strike that would be due to the UNION not the League. The League would not stop the the show by a strike the union would. The only way the League would stop the show is by a lockout. If you are in the union then you really do not understand.

It's the League that is refusing to bargain in good faith, imposing onerous work rules on the union, and trying to force the union to walk out.

It may be the union who does the actual walking, but the situation has devolved because of "labor lawyer" Bernie Plum, restaurateuse and party planner Charlotte St. Martin, and the League. They are trying to force Local One off the street, and it looks like they may get their wishes.

no matter who's side you are on, the OP's statement makes it seem like the League would be the one stopping the show in a strike and that is not true. The union would be the people causing the show to stop for what ever reason.

"no matter who's side you are on, the OP's statement makes it seem like the League would be the one stopping the show in a strike and that is not true. The union would be the people causing the show to stop for what ever reason."

That's causal. While the union is the actual force in the work stoppage, it would be the League that is the causal force behind it all.

During the last contract negotiations it was stated across the table that the Producers thought that Local One had the power then but wouldn't in the next negotiations. The League then self-imposed a surtax on every ticket sold to fund a war chest to last out the lockout. At the start of the current negotiations the League stated that there would be a lockout if the Leagues demands were not met. During the current negotiations, the League has engaged in what is probably surface bargaining. Facing an extremely negative response to their proposed lockout, the League backed off of the lockout plan and instead imposed work rules.
If you still think that this is an outcome the union desires, you are mistaken. A strike means we are out of work. The Local's commitment to the NYC entertainment industry goes back to over a century. We have never struck. We don't want to but we will not be forced into givebacks during a time of plenty.
Contact the League and tell them that more will be lost than gained if they force the shutdown of Broadway. The League is not talking about lowering ticket prices if they get these givebacks but putting additional profits into the pockets of the few. Only the working professionals of the theatre and the theatre going public will lose.

But I still think that his statement is not true, the strike that the union would have would be the factor that actually stops the show. His statement is that the League is the one to stop the show.
The League has not locked out the union, the shows continue to run. If the union strikes then the shows would stop.
