So I saw the non equ. tour last night at the NJPAC, and I was thoroughly surprised. It was very professional, and very nicely done. The sets were great, the costumes, were great, and the actors were great. The only problem was the overprojected acoustics which made the dialogue a struggle to hear. Alex Ellis as Millie was cute, yet powerful, with a very strong voice. She really stood out in Jimmy and Gimme Gimme. She played the part so well. The rest of the cast was really great too. The show stopper that got everyone cheering was "I'm Falling in Love with Someone" which showed some beautiful harmony. Overall, a terrific production of a non equity show! Great Job!
So why were you "suprised"?
When I saw it in Wilmington, it said the Millir was Alex Ellis. Yet when I looked at the promo pics for the non eq tour, the millie looked nothing like the one I saw, but with the same cast. I didn't get an understudy slip, and my friend who saw it a few nights before and the night i saw it said it was the same person. Can anyone explain?

I rarely get to see touring shows, but I saw this one simply because I'm such a big Millie fan.
There were some signs of talent in the cast, but they were severly held back by the direction and choreography. For a low budget show, they did what they could with sets and orchestrations.
If nothing else, I've learned a lot about musical theatre by following this show, having seen it many times on Broadway, on the AE tour in 2004, and now this.
I was surprised, because it was better than what I expected. There is a lot of talent in the cast. Despite the terrible sound system that they had at the NJPAC, it was really nicely done.
The reason it seemed professional ... was because it WAS professional ... just because it's not an Equity tour doesn't mean it's not a professional tour.
Thank you. That's the point exactly.
I love these Equity hollier than thou folks.
Lol. I never said it wasn't professional. I use the word as an adjective to describe the show. How ignorant. To make an attack on what I say without knowing where it's coming from. Some people on this board are just looking for a fight. It's really sad that I can't express an honest opinion about a show (a positive opinion at that)without being attacked.
Oh, but Mr. Tuttle, since you feel there is such a need to bring about vitriolic attacks upon others, I will send my rejoinder your way.
The word is holier, not hollier. There is a store called Hollister, but thats about the closest to your mismatched spelling. Learn how to spell before making an attack, okay?
Thanks
Whoa there! :)
Is there a website for Millie? It's not the modernmillietour.com right?
Well...I guess it doesn't matter about the site since the tour is ending.
I really want to see this show again. I thought it was great.
Um..yeah. Sure you didn't mean it that way. Right.
And it's just like holier than thou people to deflect the real issue and bring up the spelling thing.

So had you seen the Equity tour or Broadway production before? I've always wanted to know how much they change when it becomes a non-equity tour.
Care to elaborate on how much different the sets, choreography, and direction were?
I saw this for the first time in Wilmington a few weeks ago and I was pleasantly surprised as well. Very funny, very cute show. Great actors, sets, comedy...the only thing missing was a good score with any memorable songs. Still had a great time, even though I can't remember a single song, which is not a good sign at ALL.
Unfortunately, I missed the show on broadway, but I have the OBC to treasure. The sets were terriffic. I figure they were similar to the broadway ones, only trimmed down a bit. The costumes were the same as the bway show. Compared to the c.d. of course the broadway cast wins, but the tour has some very talented actors/singers who could very well have been in Millie on bway.
Hey it sounds like it was 'great'.
