Is there a way I can find tickets for the closest possible date without putting in the date on ticketmaster?

i don't think there is a way to do that on ticketmaster. but if there is a way, i'd love to know how. it is annoying having to go through all the dates...only to find out Wicked is sold out the entire week of my vacation!

I don't think it's possible on the website, but at a ticketmaster outlet or over the phone, the operator can perform a "Mastersearch" where you can indicate what sort of ticket you want (i.e. "Matinee, lowest price" or "Best available, Balcony, any night") and tell you which are the best performances for that.

And I'd recommend talking to a real person (in person or on the phone) and telling them what you want ("I am in town this week and want to see one of these three shows) as they usually know what is sold out, what is available and what is the best night to get good seats, etc.

Definitely call, rather than using the internet site. That's what I prefer, and I find it to be easier.

I would suggest going to the box office if you can. It's a lot easier dealing with a real person and you save yourself the ticketmaster fees.
