Just a random question I was thinking about. ha ha. If all of these musicals opened in one season, which do you think would ultimately win Best Musical or Best Musical Revival?

MUSICALS
-Contact (2000)
-The Producers (2001)
-Thoroughly Modern Millie (2002)
-Hairspray (2003)
-Avenue Q (2004)
-Spamalot (2005)
-Jersey Boys (2006)
-Spring Awakening (2007)
-In The Heights (2008 )
-Billy Elliot (2009)

MUSICAL REVIVALS
-Kiss Me Kate (2000)
-42nd Street (2001)
-Into The Woods (2002)
-Nine (2003)
-Assassins (2004)
-La Cage Aux Folles (2005)
-The Pajama Game (2006)
-Company (2007)
-South Pacific (2008 )
-Hair (2009)

I would guess The Producers or Hairspray, and Assassins or South Pacific.

Judging by the buzz/attention during each musical's opening season, I would say The Producers. However, if you're talking about a vote taken in 2010 with those shows as candidates, the winner would probably be Hairspray.

For revivals, it's less clear cut, but I think that South Pacific would probably have won the theoretical combining-the-opening-seasons as well as a 2010 vote.

My personal opinion: Hair (shout out to Company), and In The Heights

What I think would happen: The Producers or Billy Elliot, and South Pacific.

I think South Pacific would definitely win.

Billy Elliot and South Pacific would win the top prizes, but probably Hairspray would win Best Score.

Contact, Millie, Spamalot, Into the Woods, and La Cage would all be at the bottom of the pile.

Though it's a funny pairing, I believe it would be Hairspray and Hair.
