Trio is re-airing Miss America 1983/Vanessa Williams right now

Vanessa just sang "Happy Days Are Here Again" for the talent competition. She was good but not spectacular. However, she had the good fortune to follow a woman who re-recreated the final dance audition from Flashdance in flourescent yellow and silver spandex jumpsuit with legwarmers. It was ten times worse than any mostrosity you could imagine. Vanessa looks like Babs compared to these women. Easy to see how she won. It'll be fun to see her get crowned in a few minutes. My friend Amy Keys was Miss Wash. D.C. in that pageant -- beautiful, brilliant (she had a degree in microbiology), sweet with a four octave vocal range. Not that anyone cares, but she later had album on Sony and today is one of the biggest studio singers and backups in the biz.

Vanessa didn't seem too overwhelmed by her win. I only caught the last six contestants in the talent so I didn't catch your friend. They're re-airing 1958 competition now. I had to google why and apparently this was Mary Ann Mobley's year. I think I'll skip it but it's a cool idea from a pop-culture perspective. I wish they'd re-air the year Jeri Ryan sang On My Own. I heard her talking about it on a talk show once and I'd be interested in hearing her singing voice. Updated On: 9/18/04 at 07:08 PM

Maybe they'll air the three episodes where three Oklahoma City University students win the title:

Jayne Jayroe (1950 something)
Susan Powell (I remember seeing that one.. she sang an aira from "The Medium")
Shawntel Smith

They'll all be back this Friday for OCU's 100th Birthday celebration. Along with Kristin!

I heard that due to the outcry, the pageant decided to reinstate the talent competition for the last two contestants.
