Yup. Seems the UK site for the film gets all the juicy bits and updates first: http://www.mamma-mia-themovie.co.uk/main.html
And yes... the entire 1st verse of Meryl's "Mamma Mia" plays on the main page.
Enjoy... and again -- you're welcome!

Posted: 5/30/08 at 3:42pmStill my favorite part about the title song is the way Meryl sings the words "hearted" and "parted." I just love her voice. Amanda Seyfried's voice is quite enjoyable. This seems like it'll be a MAMMA MIA album I can enjoy unlike the UK cast recording.

Posted: 5/30/08 at 4:35pmI think we can all get ready for "I didn't know Meryl Streep could sing" comments once the movie is released. That'll be annoying to say the least...

Especially since Meryl has sung in several of her films, from DEATH BECOMES HER, POSTCARDS FROM THE EDGE, A PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION (where she actually plays a singer) to even IRONWEED.

Meryl introduced "Surabaya Johnny" to Broadway in the 70s, she has been singing for a while.
I agree with you, Gypsy, the comments WILL be annoying.

Posted: 5/30/08 at 10:06pmUnfortunatly Brody, many people do not credit her for her singing in those films. I have heard many people commenting that she lip-synched those vocal tracts. Unbelievable!

Well then, those selected few clueless ones will be saying the exact same thing when MAMMA MIA! comes out.
I've never heard anyone question Meryl's singing in her various films so your comment is the first I've heard of anyone assuming she lip-synched to someone else's vocals. Her singing voice sounds identical to her speaking voice -- no question about that fact.
I guess it is another one of the generational things.
Once again, Marni Nixon has pulled an Ashton Kutcher on us and is 'punking' us yet again.
Crazy bitch! Meryl isn't foolin' us at all. At all!

Posted: 5/31/08 at 1:28amI agree with Brody, her singing voice sounds EXACTLY like her speaking voice. Her "Amazing Grace," her "I'm Checkin' Out," her "Me Pal," her "Me," they all sound exactly like her regular speaking.

Posted: 5/31/08 at 1:42amHate it. Sounds all processed like the London cast recording and not what it really sounds like when you hear the songs sung live.

Meryl sounds awesome in Ironweed.
Foster, it is ABBA...i think computer automation works well for the style.

"The music and voices sound machine-automated."
Geez.. are we always going to get these comments every time a movie musical is made.
Rent, Dreamgirls, Chicago, Hairspray..

FYI, folks. That studio/synthesized/electronic/whatever sound IS intentional. This is how ABBA recorded ALL of their music (moreso later in their career), and Benny and Bjorn DEMANDED this sound be recreated for the stage-version of MAMMA MIA! (hence those additional voices doing background vocals, etc).
Of course, when the film's soundtrack was being recorded, as producers of this recording, recreated this sound for the film as well.
The songs ARE intended to sound just like their original ABBA recordings, even to the original orchestrations. They were NEVER orchestrated to sound like traditional Broadway orchestrations.

Posted: 5/31/08 at 11:03amHow much do the producers pay you to shill their movie incessantly on here?

Posted: 5/31/08 at 11:20amYeah, I most certainly think it's generational as many of my peers haven't seen her in the films mentioned that she sings in. Also, many are not aware of her theaterical work, specifically Mother Courage and the song at the Public Anniversary Gala (Surabaya Johnny?) that demonstrates her singing.

I'm a lot less concerned about Meryl's singing than I am about Colin Firth looking as though he's trying to dance.
#22re: UK MAMMA MIA!: The Movie site -- UPDATED (with sound clips!)
Posted: 6/1/08 at 9:20pmYeah, especially since Colin has the bulk of only one song ("One Last Summer") to deal with AND its only a few verses. The rest of his singing is in ensemble numbers.
