I actually got to meet Mr. Schwartz last night. He stopped by Kent State University for a "Inside the Actors Studio" type talk. It was very interesting. Here is what I learned:

His favorite show that he has written is Children of Eden.

His son Scott is the one who gave him the idea of The Wizard and I. He had two other versions. They both were called 'Making Good.' Elphaba was at the train station getting ready to leave for college. Scott came in and said skip the train and go directly to college. Stephen was unsure because it would be 20 minutes into the show and the lead has not sung a note. He thought about it and decided that it would atleast work. He wanted the audience to wait for Idina's belt, so that is why he started off slow and quiet. The song slowly builds. He sung all three versions of The Wizard and I, which was very exciting to hear them sung by the man who wrote them.

He was very nice and he signed my Wicked CD. re: WICKED CD SIGNING #2

After this, KSU put on Children of Eden. Stephen sat right behind me...talked with him at intermission and stuff. He told me that Carnegie Mellon (sp?) had an excellent lighting dept. The show was excellent. Stephen said the only thing he did not like was that is was too fast (and it was). The show was excellent.

I had an excellent evening. He is a very nice man.
